Quote of the year

May 12, 2010, 10:29 PM EDT

NEW YORK — This one deserves a post of its own. Ladies and gentlemen: Craig Stammen, on Tyler Clippard’s MLB-leading seven wins…

“I asked if I could start wearing his underwear. But he said no.”

There’s no appropriate response to that. I’ll just let it stand on its own merits.

    I am nonplussed.

Underwear that stands on its own, is really old underwear. No wonder Clippard has to raise his glove hand so high.

Mark, I should have added that one of your many gifts as a sportswriter is your sense of humor. I hope the Nats can learn to appreciate it.

    OMGLOL!!

  7. Aeoliano - May 12, 2010 at 11:35 PM

Its the specs not the top secret underwear?

  8. Suicide Squeeze - May 13, 2010 at 1:15 AM

I doubt wearing Tyler's underwear would help Craig, but maybe it would….briefly.

There's superstition for you! And once the brand of underwear is identified, I imagine Clip has a new endorsement deal.

  10. BG - May 13, 2010 at 2:52 AM

    Boxers or briefs?

  11. Doc - May 13, 2010 at 3:12 AM

Carl in 309: Lemme see, the ad copy for such an endoresement, "Get your #@++* in gear, Clip's jocks are here! Seriously, ESPN has reported that the former Yankee Clipper is on pace for a 33 win season!

  12. Steve M. - May 13, 2010 at 4:59 PM

Going past the pace of Elroy Face! Go CLIP!
