Willingham reaching new heights

May 29, 2010, 6:40 PM EST

SAN DIEGO — Josh Willingham was as consistent an offensive performer as you could find the last four years and seemed to have settled in as a solid, though hardly spectacular, ballplayer.

But over the last two months, he’s produced at levels not previously seen. At age 31, Willingham appears to have taken his game to a new level.

In this article on, Willingham sheepishly tries to downplay his lofty numbers at the plate while Adam Dunn makes some bold predictions about his teammate’s potential.

Fun article Mark. I guess we have to give Bowden some credit for a great trade. Bonifacio (probably spelled wrong)is in the minors, and Willingham and Olsen have had some great moments, and will likely have some greater ones. Where would the offense be without The Hammer???The Hammer probably should be in the Number 4 hole, although it probably doesn't make much difference.

Great piece, Mark, and love the Hammer's attitude. Quote me. :-)

@Doc: As long as Willingham is locked in on this combo of both stroke & strike-zone, keep him in the #5 hole; Most of the guys ahead of him (Guzman, Zimmerman, Dunn) are getting on base right now.

@Doc: You spelled Bonifacio correctly. The key? If you think you've misspelled Bonifacio, you actually have it right.Complete bum. Proving that even a blind squirrel can find an acorn sometimes, Jimmy Leatherpants actually found us a player. One out of 146 isn't that bad, JimBo…
