Game 103: Phillies at Nats

Jul 30, 2010, 9:32 PM EDT

Craig Stammen faces Roy Oswalt in his Phillies debut tonight.

There is still a game to be played tonight, and a depleted Nationals team that is without Matt Capps and Cristian Guzman and will be playing with a 24-man roster faces a stiff challenge against the Phillies and the pitcher they just acquired yesterday: Roy Oswalt.

The Nats actually have had recent success against Oswalt. In three head-to-head starts over the last two years, he's 0-1 with a 7.43 ERA. That includes a 2 1/3-inning start in May in which Oswalt was ejected. So perhaps the Nationals have a slight advantage against a really tough right-hander.

Check back here for updates throughout the game, and please check the other posts for Guzman, Dunn and other trade-related news…

She says she can pitch but I wonder if Miss Iowa can play 2nd base?

  2. Anonymous - Jul 30, 2010 at 9:44 PM

    It's worth a shot Phil!

  3. JaneB - Jul 30, 2010 at 9:59 PM

I gave away my seat tonight because I can't stand being there with Phillies fans. Now I'm sorry.

  4. Anonymous - Jul 30, 2010 at 10:21 PM

The question I have is: Is Batista taking advantage of his opportunity? lol

  5. Anonymous - Jul 30, 2010 at 10:26 PM

Saw Your email on this series. With those three starters we're in for a long weekend at the park. I'm ready.

  6. phil dunn - Jul 30, 2010 at 10:44 PM

Phillies fans are gross. I gave away my Sunday tickets for the same reason.

  7. Anonymous - Jul 30, 2010 at 10:52 PM

Its going to be absolutely miserable watching Lannan get pounded into the dirt on Sunday to rousing drunken cheers.

  8. Smatt1001 - Jul 30, 2010 at 11:14 PM

Nice triple by Nyjer to start things off. This can't be a good sign though the verification word I had to use was phily.

  9. David - Jul 30, 2010 at 11:14 PM

yeah Nyjer! way to hustle, leadoff triple on the first pitch

  10. Doc - Jul 30, 2010 at 11:23 PM

Are Batista and Miss Conners dating?

  11. Anonymous - Jul 30, 2010 at 11:25 PM

It appears that more than half the people sitting in the expensive seats right behind home plate are despicable Phillies fans.

  12. Brian - Jul 30, 2010 at 11:38 PM

Did Captain Morgan also throw out a ceremonial first pitch? Charlie and Dave just had him on as a guest in the booth.

  13. swang - Jul 31, 2010 at 12:35 AM

The Morgan Giveth, the Morgan Taketh Away…

  14. JaneB - Jul 31, 2010 at 1:22 AM

No! No trade! They just said the same thing on TV! WHy would Riggleman pull him when we are so far ahead?? Is cursing allowed on this blog?

  15. JaneB - Jul 31, 2010 at 1:25 AM

Phew! I heard Dibble say the trade thing; went to you to see the truth and panicked. Thank you.

  16. David - Jul 31, 2010 at 1:27 AM

Mark cbssportsline show Ramos on the bench is that correct?

  17. Mark Zuckerman - Jul 31, 2010 at 1:29 AM

David: No, Ramos is reporting to Syracuse. Rizzo said he'll probably be a September call-up.

  18. waddu eye no - Jul 31, 2010 at 1:30 AM

jeez.where'd this new kennedy come from. 4 for 5?

  19. Don Hammack - Jul 31, 2010 at 1:37 AM

The Twittersphere is leaping to conclusions about a routine late-inning defensive change. Gotta love it.

  20. Smatt1001 - Jul 31, 2010 at 1:42 AM

    And Balestar closes it out!?!?!?

  21. David - Jul 31, 2010 at 1:44 AM

Thanks that what I thought. What's this world coming to when you can't trust the internet ;).

Adam "4-for-5" Kennedy! He was just being distracted by Goozie. Now, package him with anybody and move him down the road. Phils looking like they can use some infield depth until Fragile Utley returns.

  23. JayB - Jul 31, 2010 at 2:31 AM

Oh be still my heart….if Rizzo can trade Kennedy and or Harris then he is GM of the year.Had a great time at the park tonight….big difference from opening day…..just a few buses and most fans were fine…they could not even get a lets go phillys chant going….not like the 80% Philly fans back on opening day…..Got the feeling that the team was focused and accountable….Roger B and Dunn both having their heads in the game on that Oswell out at 1st…..great play and you should have seen his face….classic…like he had never seen that play.

  24. Anonymous - Jul 31, 2010 at 2:57 AM

    Austin Kearns now a Yankee?!?!?

  25. Anonymous - Jul 31, 2010 at 4:06 AM

Gee, Kennedy is 4 for 5 and JayB is still ragging on him. One day he'll get something right.
