VIDEO: Mark talks to Jayson Werth

Jan 30, 2013, 1:00 PM EST

You may have seen a short clip on of Mark’s interview with Jayson Werth on Saturday, but there was more. Here is Mark’s full conversation with Werth who talks about the increased attention the Nats are receiving and how good the new-look outfield can be with Denard Span manning the middle.

Hahaha!!! Looking at Jason, if he leaves baseball he can always do a commercial for GEICO!!

  2. Tcostant - Jan 30, 2013 at 1:22 PM

Rabbit I'm LOL. I remember before last season Thom Lovero saying that if you showed two side by side pics of Werth and the guy asking for money at a red light on Rockville Pike, that most of D.C. could tell which was a Nationals OF'er. With last year exposure that is no longer the case, but it still make me laugh…

  3. Gonat - Jan 30, 2013 at 1:30 PM

If Orakpo can do Geico commercials than Werth can do them too!

  4. Joe Seamhead - Jan 30, 2013 at 1:31 PM

I am a betting man, and would be willing to bet that Werth is going to have an overall better year then he did in 2013, both personally, and as a member of the team going much further in the playoffs. 13 days until the official reporting for pitchers and catchers!GYFNG!!!

  5. Faraz Shaikh - Jan 30, 2013 at 1:31 PM

Yeah, go beard guys! That's it, I have decided to have a beard like Jayson. Sorry Danny.if Jayson can think of five lineups, I am sure davey can think of many more.

  6. SCNatsFan - Jan 30, 2013 at 2:12 PM

One iron clad lock – Werth will do something to monkey his beard up by ST.

  7. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jan 30, 2013 at 2:48 PM

All I can say is I'm glad its a new day! Happy Birthday Davey Johnson! The BIG 7-0

  8. Tony - Jan 30, 2013 at 2:50 PM

You got to figure Davey is popping a few pills every day to enhance his performance, keep his juices flowing and his mind sharp and all that.

  9. phil dunton - Jan 30, 2013 at 3:07 PM

Jayson Werth….Is he neanderthal man or is he the GEICO cave man?

  10. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jan 30, 2013 at 3:23 PM

Jayson's excitement over Denard Span seemed very real. I like that he likes the move. I almost think Riz bounces ideas off of him. Just a gut feeling.

  11. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jan 30, 2013 at 4:28 PM

I think Davey Johnson and Tyler Moore are celebrating their birthdays together today.

  12. LoveDaNats - Jan 30, 2013 at 4:32 PM

That is the most words I've ever heard Jayson say! He had a better year last year and I expect this year to be even better. He feels more at home here now and remember all the love he got from Nats fans when he broke his wrist last year. He's probably not much used to love from the fans.Case in point……Druuuu's standing O. Would that have happened in Philly? I think not.

  13. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jan 30, 2013 at 4:51 PM

I also like that he said he batted 2nd in his World Series "Win" season.

  14. SonnyG10 - Jan 30, 2013 at 5:34 PM

Overpay or not, I really like that we have Jayson on our team.

  15. natsfan1a - Jan 30, 2013 at 6:10 PM

Me, too, Sonny. LDN, we gave Jayson a standing O at the fest as well, after FP introduced him and alluded to the best at-bat of the year. :-)

Good read from Jonah Keri on jumping to conclusions:PED's in Baseball

  17. SonnyG10 - Jan 30, 2013 at 7:05 PM

Thanks for the link, MicheleS. Indeed it is a good read and confirms my anger for those who want to throw Gio under the bus without positive proof of his guilt.

  18. Steady Eddie - Jan 30, 2013 at 7:19 PM

MicheleS, my compliments as well for pointing us towards a thoughtful, balanced, and substantive piece. Knee-jerk responses on something like this for someone with a clean public and MLB record like Gio are what an unthinking mob does, and I'm glad to be in the "wait for the evidence, suspend judgment" group of NIers. Thanks also in this context to Candide for his "where there's smoke, there's a smoke-making machine" quote yesterday.

  19. baseballswami - Jan 30, 2013 at 7:59 PM

There is the beard, but I think the overall look, with the specs, just screams "Professor Werth" Ph D. Perhaps part of the Gio publicity will be the aforementioned Target on the Nats backs. Our players succeed and are scrutinized. No one cares when you stink. Now Jayson and Gio both get taunted? But can Gio handle it?

  20. LoveDaNats - Jan 30, 2013 at 8:07 PM

Excellent article, MicheleS. Thanks for posting.

  21. Section 3, my sofa - Jan 30, 2013 at 9:20 PM

More thanks to Michele for the Keri link. He's always worth a read.

"Why not just tell the truth? People are smart.""A person is smart. People are dumb, dangerous, panicky animals, and you know it."

  23. Tcostant - Jan 30, 2013 at 9:31 PM

More Gio stuff. From the Washington Times article linked below:"There appears to be another personal link between Gonzalez and the clinic, however, in University of Miami conditioning coach. Goins was named in the Miami New Times' original report, published on Tuesday, in "multiple client lists" from Biogenisis. Here is an excerpt from the Miami New Times' story on Goins: "In one detailed page dated December 14, 2011, Bosch writes he's selling him Anavar, testosterone, and a Winstrol/B-12 mix and charging him $400 a month. Another, from this past December, includes sales of HGH and testosterone."" wished I believed Gio, but I pretty sure he did take PED's.

  24. SonnyG10 - Jan 30, 2013 at 10:27 PM

Sorry, Tcostant. I'm not buying into it. Not in the least!!!!!

  25. Section 3, my sofa - Jan 30, 2013 at 10:33 PM

That Gio has been working with Goins isn't news, he posted about it weeks ago. Where did these people go to J-school?

  26. Section 3, my sofa - Jan 30, 2013 at 10:37 PM

Anyway, it's all guilt-by-association, and a willingness, if not eagerness, to believe the worst without any actual evidence at all. Somebody a few weeks ago, around the HOF voting, was saying he believed so-and-so was probably juicing because he played with juicers, and then said that most of MLB was doing it. So what team might a clean player be on WITHOUT association with juicers, if both of those assertions are true?
