Game 65: Nats at Rockies

Jun 13, 2013, 5:30 PM EDT

USA Today Sports Images

It's been 29 days since Ross Detwiler last pitched, a strained right oblique muscle having shelved him for nearly a month. Today, the left-hander returns to the mound, healthy and hoping to pick up where he left off. In eight starts before the injury, Detwiler sported a 2.76 ERA, certainly pitching better than his 2-4 record would suggest.

The Nationals have missed their No. 5 starter and gladly welcome him back with open arms this afternoon as they seek to win their second straight against the Rockies and take this series. With Detwiler officially activated off the DL, reliever Erik Davis has been optioned to Class AAA Syracuse. That means Ross Ohlendorf is sticking around for now, though the Nats will need to make another roster move on Sunday when Stephen Strasburg returns.

After watching his club score five runs last night against Jorge De La Rosa and Co., Davey Johnson is going with a similar lineup against fellow lefty Jeff Francis. That means Jeff Kobernus makes his second straight start in left field, batting second. The only change: Kurt Suzuki returns behind the plate, batting eighth.

Though I'm not in Denver for this series, I will be watching alongside all of you this afternoon. And I'll have an Instant Analysis post as soon as the game ends, so be sure to check back for that…

Too bad for Little Clip, but he was just not ready. Interesting that they are keeping Ohlendorf. He can't pitch for a few days, but if they sent him down he would have to stay there for 10 days, or he could take his opt-out.

  2. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 13, 2013 at 5:39 PM

Welcome back Det…. Im glad to see Kobernus getting more plate appearances… I would have rathered Mini Clip stay up and Cedeno go back down…

Offerings of cigars and rum are also indicated. Thanks be given to the baseball gods (or Jobu, or whomever); may the excitement continue to build !

  4. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 5:46 PM

Cards scored a run against Harvey with small-ball. Wonder if that will be enough for Wainwright.

  5. Knoxville Nat - Jun 13, 2013 at 5:46 PM

I'm wondering if Haren doesn't get an injured pinky finger on his right hand between now and Sunday. Not wishing it on him of course but just saying…….

  6. Eric - Jun 13, 2013 at 5:48 PM

From the Twitter feed:Per Davey, Stephen Strasburg (lat) had a clean bullpen session today and was given the clear by trainers. Still on track to return Sunday.Woohoo! Next up: info on Harper, hopefully tomorrow, and hopefully appreciably along the same lines!

I forgot the game started at 3 today…. I guess I will be listening to Charlie and Dave on XM until I can get home and watch the game…

  8. bowdenball - Jun 13, 2013 at 5:57 PM

I had no idea Jeff Francis was having such a bad year. Walks and HRs are way up. The Nats need to show patience, get on base, and play for the Earl Weaver special today. They could put up a big number.

  9. DaveB - Jun 13, 2013 at 5:57 PM

The Post schedule page shows Haren on Sunday and Stras on Monday … does Davey want to save SS for the Phils or is Monday still correct/

  10. Eric - Jun 13, 2013 at 5:59 PM

    >I had no idea Jeff Francis was having such a bad year.Oh great…these guys have had our freaking number this season.

  11. JD - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:01 PM

DaveB, Everywhere I checked they have Stas on Sunday in Cleveland and Haren in Phily on Monday.

  12. JD - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:04 PM

Wainwright is a free agent after this year. Right? Wow.

  13. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:08 PM

Wright broke up the no-hitter after a chancy (not nessarily wrong) call by the ump. They didn't show reply if he checked his swing and they didn't show pitch f/x to see if it was a strike.

  14. Kiterp - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:09 PM

Mrs B … MLB on XM usually broadcasts the home team announcers. Does JFK have an XM station?

  15. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:10 PM

And now Wainwright walks a guy. Was he mentally in the dugout when he thought he had the 3rd strike on Wright? Luckily, a long flyout to center by Duda (had a nice sound, you could see Wainwright was worried).

  16. phil dunton - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:12 PM

Wainright signed a 5 year extension in March for $97.5 million.

  17. JD - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:13 PM

Never mind. Wainright signed a big long term contract in March. ($97.5 mil for 5 years).

  18. JD - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:14 PM

I owe you a drink phil.

  19. Doc - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:15 PM

Sorry to see Clip II go back down. He'll be back. Cursed with not throwing with his left arm like Cedeno, I guess???

  20. JD - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:17 PM

Doc, Cedeno is only buying 3 more days until Stras returns I think.

  21. Sec. 3, My Sofa - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:23 PM

BTW, from the other threads, but Re: Davey coaching in the ASG–am I remembering wrong, or is it not established convention to have the managers of the other division winners on the staff, if they accept?

  22. JD - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:25 PM

Sec.3 I think it's fairly discretionary but it's generally considered good manners to have the home manager invited to the staff.

  23. Sec. 3, My Sofa - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:31 PM

    And he didn't do that?

  24. Knoxville Nat - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:32 PM

Balkin Bob Davidson and John Hirschbeck on the bases. Somehow I missed that the first two games….just hope nobody on the Nats gives Hirschbeck the opportunity to repeat his Pittsburgh performance when he tossed Harper out for no good reason.

  25. Sec. 3, My Sofa - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:36 PM

Nevermind. Terry Collins instead of Dusty. Interesting.

  26. Sec. 3, My Sofa - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:37 PM

Also, trainer Lee Kuntz goes with Davey.

  27. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Well, much as I enjoy a good pitchers' duel, gotta watch the first few minutes of my precious Nats before (sigh) work.

  28. JD - Jun 13, 2013 at 6:57 PM

NL, These 2 pitchers are special though. Aren't they?

  29. DaveBinMD - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Nats Lady said:"Too bad for Little Clip, but he was just not ready."He had 5 appearances (4.1 innings) with 7 Ks and 1 BB, and in 4 of those 5 appearances he allowed no earned runs. He had ONE bad outing in a game that was already a lost cause thanks to Haren. He's looked more 'ready' than Drew Storen has…

  30. JaneB - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:08 PM

I figured it would be Baby Clip who got optioned. I agree Cedeno is next. I don't think Haren springs an injury between now and the. He's too straight forward a guy.GYFNG!I'd rather have Stras on Sunday FWIW. GYFNG,

  31. Eric - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:11 PM

    Wow…Det's ERA is 2.76 and Francis' is 6.30.Both have a record of 2 – 4.

  32. Eric - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Mr. Cy Francis presiding over the top of the first…

  33. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:18 PM

Not the best way to start the game, Det.

  34. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:19 PM

Uhm… not good at bats at all fellas…

  35. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:20 PM

DaveBinMD–yeah, if you just looked at the stats. But looking at the games he was shaky and got rescued by some excellent fielding and the guy after him who didn't let inherited runners score. He was able to strike guys out, but didn't have much "craft". That will come, I hope.

  36. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:20 PM

Cy Fracis needs to go Babe Fowler came through on first pitch.

    Freaky accident to CarGo

  41. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:23 PM

MrsB–yes. They subbed in Tyler Colvin.

  42. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:24 PM

I hate to see anyone injured… That is tough…Thanks NL!

  44. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:25 PM

  46. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:25 PM

  47. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:25 PM

Det started the season lights out… then all of a sudden went into a lull…

  48. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:29 PM

Could've been worse. Hopefully Det settles in now.

  49. Eric - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:29 PM

    OK, flip the script, Nats.

  50. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:29 PM

Good Det, minimized the damage, hasn't forgotten how to pitch. This game is not ending 1-0.

Jeff Francis hss been awful tis seasin. cy Francis is great.

  54. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:33 PM

MrsB loves the Nats said… Det started the season lights out… then all of a sudden went into a lull… Like you said he started off the season well. The Atlanta game was all about the fact that they had him scouted well and were prepared for him and Det sometimes has to mix it up. Also, there's a good chance Det was injured long before the game he was pulled from.

  55. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:34 PM

This is the thing about XM… So the inning just ended… But I am on MLB.com and pitch track just showed J Werth grounding out….

I dont understand why these pitchers with 5/6 ERAs eat us alive…

  57. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:35 PM

We have not had a homer this series. About time we get one.

  58. Eric - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:35 PM

    >Also, there's a good chance Det was injured long before the game he was pulled from.Yeah, I seem to recall Carp and FP talking about him grimacing getting over to first during the previous start.

  59. Eric - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:36 PM

    >I dont understand why these pitchers with 5/6 ERAs eat us alive…It's very strange and frustrating.

  65. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:38 PM

Francis is getting breaking balls over for a first strike, that's kind of different.

  66. Eric - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:38 PM

  72. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:39 PM

Oops 2 outs. Forfot Werth batted this inning.

  73. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:39 PM

You wanted a first pitch swing, you got one. From Suzuki, who never does that.

  74. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:40 PM

better than watching detwiler hit tho

  75. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:40 PM

2 batters in a row get hits and Suzuki swings at the 1st pitch he sees which was a pitchers pitch. Come on man!

  76. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:41 PM

In his defense, Zook probably thought he wouldn't get another pitch to hit with Det batting behind him.

  77. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:41 PM

All right, folks, venturing out into the weather. Take care of this one, go NATS!!!!

  78. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:42 PM

David Proctor said… Zuke is in a bad place at the plate. It would be so nice to get Ramos back, but now it's at least another month away. Sigh. June 13, 2013 3:39 PM He is headed towards Mendoza and it's frustrating to watch. He started off the season looking clutch and now not so much.

  79. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:43 PM

DJ needs to give Zook more days off… Im not sure he has had a hit since he got hit by that pitch…

  80. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:44 PM

NatsLady said… In his defense, Zook probably thought he wouldn't get another pitch to hit with Det batting behind him. June 13, 2013 3:41 PM Which is why the 8 hitter has to be a patient hitter and you take what the game gives you. Detwiler then has to do his job. That's not Suzuki's job to swing at that pitch. Now Detwiler begins the next inning. Sigh.

  81. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:46 PM

Having watched baseball this debate has been forever. To swing or not to swing.Iften times tge most hittable pitch is the first pitch. Teams that have a low average have it because they not hitting hittable pitches.Nolan Areanto just got a hit on the first pitch.

  82. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:46 PM

    there's a pivot for practice

  83. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:46 PM

  84. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:47 PM

Nice turn by Rendon as Ian's flip was from in front of the bag, not behind. Not easy.

  85. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:47 PM

  92. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:51 PM

Suzuki hit hit fast ball that was doewn the middle. Most hittable pitch there is.Why would him not to hit the most hittable pitch there is?Problem not the swing. It was the contact. He didnt square it, he hit the top of the ball.

  93. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:51 PM

Det's first hit of the year!

  94. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:52 PM

See Detwiler got a hit. That's my point with Suzuki, do your job.

  95. bowdenball - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:52 PM

Eric said…">I dont understand why these pitchers with 5/6 ERAs eat us alive…It's very strange and frustrating."I'm about 99% sure it's not true. I bet if you could do splits, we hit the guys with high ERAs much more than the guys with low ERAs. We hit Scott Diamond well four games ago. Most of our other 6+ run outbursts also came against relatively bad starters. Fans just remember it more when we can't hit mediocre guys because its that much more frustrating. You see a guy like Francis on the mound and you expect every Nat to get on base. Also, this has been a horrible offense so far this season, so they really don't hit anyone all that well.

  96. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:53 PM

MNF, if that was down the middle, check it on pitch F/X. I thought it was down and in. Maybe you are right and if you are right, shame on Suzuki for not driving it.

  97. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 7:55 PM

MNF, if that was down the middle, check it on pitch F/X. I thought it was down and in. Maybe you are right and if you are right, shame on Suzuki for not driving it. Look, we all know he's not a .300 hitter. And even .300 hitters don't always get a hit on fastballs down the middle. It happens.

    Should be an out

  114. Steady Eddie - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:04 PM

MNF — per GameDay (which seems to have been a lot more accurate this season than previously), the pitch to Zook was partway at the very bottom of the zone, very slightly lower than pitches with the bottom of the zone that Hoye (HP ump) has erroneously called balls today.Zim's dinger was much higher in the zone, at least 1/3 to 40% of the way up.

Gosh — I can't remember a discussion (re: RZ last night) that went on for so long which can be summarized by: "he misjudged, but he scored anyway"

  125. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:11 PM

    Hit the corners.

  126. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:11 PM

    Yeah, Hirshbeck's a well-established bum

  127. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:11 PM

Bizarre call on Fowler. Front foot out of the box and body across the plate. The bat was being pulled back. I realize it's a judgment call but Nats need some calls to go their way.

  128. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:12 PM

Mental errors can be teaching moments.

  129. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:12 PM

I'm watching on Gameday right now . . . missed the first inning:What happened to CarGo?

  130. Steady Eddie - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:12 PM

Wonk — and given the confusion around the near-catch, I don't know that all of us would agree that Zim misjudged. Most, sure, but not all.

  131. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:13 PM

Wonk at 4:10, I agree. It had no adverse effect since he scored by Desi.

  132. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:13 PM

I'm just listening online, but if his foot is out of the box when he's hit – he's clearly out

  133. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:13 PM

Poor judgement in my opinion.had he been in box not in front of the plate then a good call.

  134. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:13 PM

Ghost Of Steve M. said… Bizarre call on Fowler. Front foot out of the box and body across the plate. The bat was being pulled back. I realize it's a judgment call but Nats need some calls to go their way.We just don't remember them so much. Just yesterday (or was it day before?) the throw beat the Nats runner (can't remember who), but the ump call him safe.

  135. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:14 PM

if you bunt in that position you're out anyway, can't see how be a batter in any way without being IN the box.

  136. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:14 PM

    Good play by Rendon.

  137. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:14 PM

A DC Wonk said… I'm watching on Gameday right now . . . missed the first inning:What happened to CarGo? June 13, 2013 4:12 PMA foul ball that ricocheted off of him. He hurt his ankle. No video to show it. I thought possibly injured trying to dodge the ball as it was a low ankle injury.

  138. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:15 PM

wonk, it's still possible for the tag to be late or not made in that case. A guy can't have a foot out of the box and be a batter.

  139. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Rendon with another nice fielding play!

  140. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:16 PM

I called out immediately, as he hit the ball . He was bringing back the ball it hit his hands on the bat. He was out of the batter's box so it seem clear he was out.Had he been swinging not bunting it would never not be called a check swing.

  141. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:16 PM

i will grant you that call is missed, especially since they let guys rub the lines out pretty quickly

  142. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:16 PM

Wonk, I'm a homer. I always think the Nats don't get the calls ;)

  143. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:16 PM

Also: gameday says:Jeff Francis lines out to center fielder Denard Span.Injury Delay. What was the injury delay?

  144. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:17 PM

Ghost Of Steve M. said… Wonk, I'm a homer. I always think the Nats don't get the calls ;)Spoken like a true fan!! ;-)

  145. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:17 PM

LaRoche has to start to take those outside pitches oppo again.

  146. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:17 PM

that's sad that no other ump saw it then if they conferenced.

  147. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:18 PM

"What was the injury delay?"The Rockies batter fouled the ball off and it hit Carlos Gonzalez who was in the on-deck circle. He had to leave the game.

  148. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:18 PM

Calling Chipper Jones, ALR needs you again.

  149. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:18 PM

    Agreed Ghost.

  150. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:18 PM

We either hit him or totally stink.ALR swings at one a foot outside.

  151. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:18 PM

I loved that bunt a few games back agains the Mets

  152. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:19 PM

Nobody has to tell Francis to lighten up, it's ALL lightweight

  153. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:19 PM

    Rendon due a tator.

  154. blovy8 - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:20 PM

Ok, I like running against THIS guy if you can go first move.

  155. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:21 PM

    >I dont understand why these pitchers with 5/6 ERAs eat us alive…All a matter of perspective, my friend. We think Ohlendorf pitched great last night.I'm sure Rockies fans are saying: "WTF, the guys as has a combined ERA of 7.94 for 2011-2012 and we only get two hits off of him?!?!"

  156. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:22 PM

That was the worst swing Rendon has had since his callup. It happens. That looked like every swing lately from Chad Tracy.

  157. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:22 PM

Rendon got under it, been driving through mostZook you are due

  158. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:23 PM

Ian's up to .288 — highest BA on the entire team.

  159. Sec. 3, My Sofa - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:24 PM

    Rendon due a tator.Sounds like a decepticon from Veggie Machines … Ta-Tor!

  160. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:24 PM

    > Zook you are due It's ok. We have that spray-hitter extraordinaire leading off next inning ;-)

  161. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:26 PM

This game ain't ending 2-1. We need more runs.

  162. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:27 PM

A DC Wonk said… Ian's up to .288 — highest BA on the entire team. Rendon would disagree and somewhere Zach Duke is telling people he had the highest BA on the team.

  163. Eugene in Oregon - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:27 PM

Stay safe in the DC area — weatherwise, I mean.

  164. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:28 PM

Yah, that's right David Proctor Sheesh.

  165. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:32 PM

MASN has screwed up a couple times today.

  166. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:32 PM

Damn I. Go out for 5 minutes to feed the catsand I come back we are losing. i cant trust Ross while I am gone

  167. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:34 PM

Ross is just missing up a little. Probably rusty. He needs to be down to induce all those groundouts.

  168. A DC Wonk - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:34 PM

A DC Wonk said…Ian's up to .288 — highest BA on the entire team. OK — how about for those playing in more than 20 games?

  169. Sec. 3, My Sofa - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:34 PM

It's DP's fault, MNF. He's The Summoner's Evil Twin today.

  170. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:34 PM

Made it to work, but some heavy rain. Student isn't here, so there was no rush… ;) Just in time to see Jayson make an error making it a real Nats game.

  171. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:35 PM

David you talking about playing the inning ending music after second out?

  172. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:36 PM

Yeah MNF. They screwed up earlier too by playing the music. And they also tweeted the score was 4-3, when it's 3-2.

  173. NatsLady - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:36 PM

Well, it probably ain't ending 3-2 either. 'Bout time to figure this guy out.

  174. Tcostant - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:38 PM

Another error – come on Werth. The amount of errors may be the most surprising part of the 2013 Nationals.

  175. Don - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:38 PM

Has Werth hit one out of the infield this series?

  176. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:40 PM

This guy pitches crap. I guessbeing an old man with eyes that are wearing out I could only hit crap now. Would never see the fastbalk.First 2 batters so fatr weak

  177. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:41 PM

Zim, Werth, LaRoche up next inning. That's when we need to pounce.

  178. Don - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:41 PM

That is the Rockies way — mostly lefties who get guys out based on changing speeds.

  179. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:41 PM

Had a hit to right last night scored zim.Irst 2 batters have been worse than poor today, very Espi like.

  180. Exposremains - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:44 PM

Reminder to Nats: this guy has a 6+ era. Destroy him.

  181. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:44 PM

The only issue I have with Det is that even on the rare occasion he throws offspeed, he doesn't throw it for strikes. He needs to get that curve and change over for a strike. Not all the time, but at least make them respect it. If he can do that, he'll be fantastic.

  182. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:45 PM

Francis has made Kobernus look AA.

  183. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:47 PM

Sorry no hit last night. One hit to outfield. double in the 5th Tuesday

  184. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:47 PM

    Much better inning that time.

  185. Christopher Cohen - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:48 PM

Ryan Zimmerman fan challenge? Hmm… I would like to challenge Ryan to a competition of throwing a baseball from third to first.

  186. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:48 PM

Time to get seious, Francis is due to give up some runs.

  187. Sec. 3, My Sofa - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:51 PM

I've got a fan challenge for Ryan: Nats Insider Trivia! Pick an event in Nats history at random–he has to guess who predicted it.

  188. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:54 PM

Well at least Francis will be out of the game soon.

  189. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:55 PM

Hope that was it for Francis and get into their bullpen.

  190. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:55 PM

A change up right over the middle moving to the sweet spot and we stand and do nothing. Is that Davey told Dave Jagler? No mote passive hitting?top 5 1 for 15. Except the homer they have been Werthless.

  191. SCNatsFan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Yet another day a guy with a high era feasts on us. Tell me again Davey just how good Eck is.

  192. Exposremains - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Great bats in middle of the order. 8k against Francis. Thats just awful. Wake up guys.

  193. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 8:59 PM

We are 14th in runs and hits. Batters are not making any indication that they are oing what it takes to change that ranking.

  194. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 9:03 PM

You know I wish Eck throw his clipboard away. We are in high tech now, and talk the batters during the game. at least look like you are engaged.

  195. baseballswami - Jun 13, 2013 at 9:03 PM

    Werth's first error, though.

  196. Eugene in Oregon - Jun 13, 2013 at 9:03 PM

    Nine outs.

  197. David Proctor - Jun 13, 2013 at 9:05 PM

Why does Desi insist on trying to bunt? I know he has a few bunt base hits, but his power is too valuable. I like the bunt if it's Span or Kobernus but not Desi.

  198. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 9:09 PM

He wasnt planning to bunt. Wants to draw 3b man in that is all.Had he plan to bunt he would have.

  199. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 13, 2013 at 9:09 PM

This is a huge AB for Suzuki. Get on it!

  200. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 13, 2013 at 9:10 PM

Zook needs to start hitting again
