Game 67: Nats at Indians

Jun 15, 2013, 7:52 PM EDT

Chase here posting the game threads for the weekend as the Nats continue their series with the Cleveland Indians. After mustering just two hits against Justin Masterson last night, Washington will take a shot at the resurgent Scott Kazmir (3-4, 5.33 ERA). Though his numbers overall aren't spectacular, the lefty has been very good at home with a 3-0 record and 3.68 ERA at Progressive Field. This will be his first time facing the Nationals.

Working in Washington's favor is the presence of Jordan Zimmermann (9-3, 2.00) on the mound. They saw a terrific outing by Gio Gonzalez last night and should expect their starter to give them a good chance to win once again this evening. Zimmermann will be seeking his 10th win in the team's 67th game of the year. He has never faced the Indians before.

Davey Johnson has bumped Anthony Rendon up to hit second for the first time this season, likely in hopes his patience at the plate can pay dividends at the top of the lineup. Through 15 games this year Rendon already has more walks than Danny Espinosa and is only two behind Jayson Werth in 22 less games. Chris Marrero is also in the seven hole as the designated hitter.

Enjoy the game…

A chance to do to-night, what we didn't do last night!Kazmir is no Masterson, but then again, the Nats could prove me wrong!!!

  2. sjm308 - Jun 15, 2013 at 8:14 PM

This looks more like what I had hoped for last night. Of course that doesn't mean anything. Like Rendon in the #2 spot and can't wait to have Werth moved down in the order when Bryce is healthy. I can also live with Werth at #2 and Rendon hitting behind Desmond. Lets Go Nats!!

  3. Kirbs - Jun 15, 2013 at 8:44 PM

Now this is a line up!

  4. Kirbs - Jun 15, 2013 at 8:49 PM

Giants put up 3 on Minor.

  5. NatsLady - Jun 15, 2013 at 8:50 PM

Col put up 6 on Filly. Of course, that doesn't mean much, as they didn't hold the 5 run lead yesterday.

  6. SonnyG10 - Jun 15, 2013 at 9:00 PM

Got a good feeling about tonight. GYFNG!!!

  7. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 15, 2013 at 9:25 PM

Davey read my emsl on putting Rendon in 2 hole.

  8. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 15, 2013 at 9:26 PM

BJ Upton goes over the wall to rob a HR from Posey only the ball hits the middle of the wall. Don't see that everyday.

  9. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:01 PM

    Love this lineup.

  10. UnkyD - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:01 PM

This smells like a productive lineup….

  11. Sec. 3, My Sofa - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:03 PM

BJ Upton 2-run homer gets Barves w/in 1

  12. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:08 PM

Sec3 and BJ has 2 HRs in the game.

  13. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:11 PM

BJ Upton and Danny Espinosa (good Espinosa, not this year) are remarkably similar. Both play good D, both can hit for power, both can steal bases, neither can hit for average, both strike out A LOT.

  14. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:18 PM

Now another pitcher to the hospital with a liner to his head. This time Alex Cobb of the Rays. T&P

  15. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:26 PM

I was watching Cobb when it happened. Line drive off the side of his head. Not pretty but he was awake and moving when he was carted off.

  16. Laddie Blah Blah - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:28 PM

Agree that Rendon belongs in the 2-hole. Would love to see Marrero do something tonight. This is yet another chance for him. He is in danger of becoming a RH Roger Bernadina. You only get so many chances before you become a pine splinter magnet.Werth has been taking far too many strikes. He knows it, and tonight would be as good a time as any to snap out of it.Suzuki and Zimmermann have really clicked as a battery. Davey better hope that Suzuki holds it together. He is leaning on that guy awfully hard. Solano has called some good games (e.g. Ohlendorf). Give Kurt a breather every now and then. Lord knows Solano is well-rested.I would love to see Brown replace Tracy. He strikes out too much, but he has also been getting some big hits in important game situations, and has come off the DL with some consistent pop in that bat.Let's go, Nats. You are better than you showed, last night. You keep on losing, and Rizzo is gonna bring back Danny on you!JZ wins no. 10. The Nats score on an error, stolen base, wild pitch, and a balk (thank you, Bob Davidson) and win 1 – 0 as JZ throws 28 pitches for a 1-hit, complete game shutout, while the Cleveland staff no-hits the Nats.I'll take it.

  17. Drew - Jun 15, 2013 at 10:55 PM

Hope Tampa's Cobb is OK.With the Braves, Pirates and Reds trailing, this is a big chance for the Nats to gain ground.Bring the lumber, boys. GYFNG!

Ending in the Os game was epic. Pinch runner forgot how many outs there were and on a flyout to RF just kept running from 1st to 3rd and got doubled off 1st to end the game. Os lose 5-4 :)

  20. Scott Margenau - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:05 PM

    Much better lineup

  21. djinFl. - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:05 PM

Laddie, I agree on Solano. I think he has called exceptional games and Zook really needs a rest. Maybe give the Onion Sunday and Monday and let Zook alternate between the whirlpool and massage therapist.

  22. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:09 PM

"Zook really needs a rest" Seems like alot of people here see that and Davey doesnt care. I hope he got a good night sleep.

  23. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:10 PM

Wow the Giants botch a double play ball that would've ended the game. Went right through the SS's legs. Danger lurking.

  24. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Uh oh. Trouble in Atlanta. Bases loaded 1 out.

  25. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Nats 128 said…"Zook really needs a rest" Seems like alot of people here see that and Davey doesnt care. I hope he got a good night sleep.I think it's because a lot of people here think that when someone slumps, they just need a rest and that will make it okay. That's not really right. You have to hit your way out of a slump. Now maybe with Suzuki, it's actually the case since we know how beat up he gets behind the plate. But generally speaking…

  26. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:15 PM

Romo blows the save. Tie game. Bases still loaded, 1 out.

  27. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:17 PM

    Braves walkoff

  28. NatsLady - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:17 PM

Romo and G'nts blew the game.

  29. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:18 PM

    ZIM!

  30. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:18 PM

    Zimm!

  31. paul brandt - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:19 PM

Well that hurt. Wish the Nats would have more than 1 walk off win for the year! that really is a way to turn the momentum for a team. Romo looked bad.

  32. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:19 PM

    BACK TO BACK!

  33. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:20 PM

I guess Werth's wrist is fine.

  34. Smatt1001 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:21 PM

    Back to Back!!

  35. Joe Seamhead - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:21 PM

Yes! No, after a month on the DL, a day off, and a rain out Werth does not need a rest. He needs to get his reps, IMHO.

  36. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:22 PM

If this guy keeps throwing fastballs, we're going to have a good night. We can hit fastballs. It's all the other junk we can't hit.

  37. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:24 PM

Is it just me or is the sound weird for this game?

  38. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:25 PM

Didn't know that Jordans 13.3 pitches per inning is the best in baseball. How come FP never told us that.

  39. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:26 PM

Romo has .88 Whip but since he bet on the Braves, he throws the game in the 9th. He basically made Henry's effort against the Braves a couple of weeks ago look so-so by comparison.Romo is on my list.

  40. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:27 PM

"Is it just me or is the sound weird for this game?"That is just Verduccis voice. He sounds kind of whiney.

  41. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:27 PM

    Zim is wild.

  42. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:30 PM

"Zim is wild."Isnt that called controlled chaos. Good inning.

  43. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:30 PM

But Zim recovers just as we'd expect. No biggie.

  44. Section 222 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:32 PM

JZnn also has the second best (to Kershaw) road ERA in baseball over the past two seasons. Another impressive stat. Verducci may sound whiney, but I like his commentary. No nonsense. Very stat oriented. Not too long ago, he subbed for Harold R on MLB Now, and he and Brian Kenney had a sabre lovefest.

  45. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:34 PM

    I like Verducci as well.

  46. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:34 PM

    DESI!

  47. Timothy Folk - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:34 PM

Hopefully the rain doesn't get bad in Cleveland we're looking good 3-0

  48. NatsLady - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:35 PM

Y'know–this is fun. I hope Francona leaves him in for a while.

  49. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:37 PM

    2 singles last night

  50. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:37 PM

Look how quickly Desi gets going without a hacker like Tracy or Espi hitting behind him.

  51. paul brandt - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:40 PM

singles, heck even doubles are over-rated…haha! when is the last time our first 3 runs have been solo HR's??

  52. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:40 PM

Kazmir already over 40 pitches in 2 innings. He might not be around long.

  53. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:40 PM

Who isplaying tonight only the Indians? Fox Spends 90% of nats at bat talking about Indians

  54. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:42 PM

All I got is Charlie and Dave. Apparently, the Yankees are forever the regional team for Florida.

  55. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Kobernus BA down to .214 How quickly he was called a professional hitter when he had that 2 hit game. I guess if he gets 3 hits in a row here he will be back to a professional hitter. He pounds mostly everything into the ground and that is BABIP to find those holes. Need to see him hit some line drives. Haven't seen that yet.

  56. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:44 PM

I am away from home but this is my game fotunstely.

  57. Jim Webster - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Fox play-by-play guy's nasal yelling is driving me nuts. Need to go to Charlie and Dave.

  58. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:50 PM

My audio is bad as well. It is over-processed and scratchy.Romo and that Paco guy from the Dodgers both delivered games to the Braves on a silver platter.

  59. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:51 PM

Dave and charlie on my phone about 30 seconds behind Fox. Still better than listening to Fox

  60. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:51 PM

    Nats 128…..don't hold your breath.

  61. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:51 PM

Compared to Espinosa, Kop is Babe Ruth.

  62. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:52 PM

Especially if Fox is showing Angels/Yankees.

  63. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:52 PM

Maybe if we would hit we would have games delivered too.

  64. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:53 PM

Yet another double for Anthony Rendon.

  65. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:53 PM

    Rendon is amazing.

  66. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:53 PM

    Rendon the double machine.

  67. paul brandt - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:53 PM

    Rendon rope…love it.

  68. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:54 PM

    Rendon is a doubles machine.

  69. Nats 128 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:54 PM

I hope Giambi told Frazier not to take steroids. Just saying.

  70. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:54 PM

    I owe you Manassas.

  71. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:56 PM

That wasn't a gap double but a nice and easy line drive swing. Batting .315. Like!

  72. NatsLady - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:56 PM

See, Verducci just said, "That was not a pitch-around situation." He uses the term the way I use it, not as a synonym for intentional walk.

  73. Smatt1001 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:00 AM

Bases loaded. Hoping they can add on.

  74. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:02 AM

Jeez LaRoche SMOKED that ball right to Kazmir.

  75. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:03 AM

Dont worry Verducci about that .185 BA now with bases loaded as Davey doesnt care what you think. I dare you to ask him about that.BTW, Espinosa was 0-3 in bases loaded situations. LaRoche 1-5 in bases loaded.

  76. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:03 AM

For your drink recording pleasure, the the NIDO spreadsheet. Gee, it was so interesting hearing all about the Indians' No. 1 draft pick. Have they mentioned that Rendon, the Nats' No. 1 pick two years ago, now has a nine game hitting streak and coming into the game was hitting .370/.414/.519 since he returned to the majors 10 days ago?

  77. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:04 AM

"Jeez LaRoche SMOKED that ball right to Kazmir."That was Kipnis.

  78. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:04 AM

Kenny Albert (play by play guy) used to be the play by play guy for the Caps & Bullets (not Wizards) for those interested and is currently the radio play by play guy for the NY Rangers…sorry if old news.

  79. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:06 AM

    Wild pitch nice

  80. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:06 AM

Yes, I'm stupid. Kazmir is the pitcher. All the K's!

  81. skidge - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:07 AM

Thinking I did the right thing by having Charlie and Dave on, even if they're about a pitch ahead of Fox.

  82. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:07 AM

This rain is making me nervous. Get 5 innings in!

  83. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:08 AM

Now we get to work their bullpen and make them tired for tomorrow!

  84. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:13 AM

I feel bad for Chris Marrero, but, hey, you gotta swing the bat.

  85. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:14 AM

Kurt Suzuki is 0-5 in bases loaded situations. Werth 0-1, Span 0-1, Zimm, 2-3, Espi 0-3, Laroche 1-5, Desi 2-4, Lombo 0-0 w/ GW Sac Fly, Harper 0-0 (3-9 career), Tyler Moore 0-4, Chad Tracy 0-0

  86. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:17 AM

These are the same hitters we had yesterday. The difference? Kasmir is not Masterson.

  87. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:17 AM

So in other words, we need Zim or Desi up with the bases loaded, Nats 128?

  88. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:20 AM

NL, have to disagree, Rendon is in the line-up and Tracy is not, big darn difference.

  89. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:20 AM

Well Zim had to give up a run eventually.

  90. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:20 AM

Aw, come on, guys–a rundown shouldn't be that close!!!

  91. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:21 AM

Skidge they are 3 pitches behind on mine.

  92. Amr Khani - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:22 AM

after last night, cleveland should not be whining about a basepath call. they got their huge break in a much more important situation

  93. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:23 AM

Well a single run is not a problem it mutiple runs

  94. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:23 AM

Let's get that run back now.

  95. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:23 AM

PB–I'm all for Rendon, but I don't see how Tracy's absence enabled Zim, Werth, and Desi to hit homeruns.

  96. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:24 AM

    Hard to argue that, NL.

  97. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:29 AM

I just looked at Clip's inning because they have a thing on Fangraphs for the wildest of wild pitches–that pitch of Clip's that Suzuki caught was up near the 5-foot mark. Anyway, Clip was 0-2 on Carlos Santana when Tracy failed to catch that foul ball. That cost Clip a bunch of pitches (as he eventually walked Santana, etc.) I am not happy with Tracy a-tall, not at-all.

  98. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:30 AM

Verducci says Rendon reminds him of David Wright. "Wristy hitter, natural stroke to right center field." Nice comparison.

  99. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:30 AM

NL, good point but with Tracy in the line-up yesterday they could pitch around Desmond knowing they would take their chances with Tracy and it worked which made a weak line-up even weaker…Joe, I tried.

  100. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:31 AM

NL, I meant to imply that it was hard to argue against your point regarding Masterson/Kasmir.

  101. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:32 AM

Chris Archer ‏@ChrisArcher42 1mSaw Cobb briefly. He was in good spirits, lots of smiles. Big thanks to @TheRealHos35 for coming to check on him as well.

  102. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:33 AM

I knew what you meant, Seam.

  103. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:33 AM

"David Proctor said… So in other words, we need Zim or Desi up with the bases loaded, Nats 128?"I guess so + Harper. The fact the Nats are 100 points below the MLB average is boggling to the mind.

  104. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:35 AM

The main thing Rendon needs to do is get stronger. Yes, he has a natural swing. And warning track power. That is not a knock on him. Just needs to get stronger.

  105. skidge - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:36 AM

Manassas, it's less behind for me on FM than on AM for some reason.

  106. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:36 AM

Uh-oh. We're gonna need all those runs.

  107. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:37 AM

    not a good location Jordan.

  108. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:38 AM

BTW, Paul brandt, I was thinking that it was Kenny's dad Marv Albert that used to call the Bullets games. OK Jordan, that's quite enough.

  109. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:38 AM

Whoa JZimm, I get you want to challenge, but a fastball down the middle to Reynolds isn't the way to do it.

  110. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:38 AM

JZ needs to cut that stuff out. No need to challenge these guys. Theres no plane to catch. Pitch the darn ball.

  111. Dan Strong - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:39 AM

    Well.. That escalated quickly.

  112. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:40 AM

Zim throws a lot of balls falls behind and grooves home run pitches.Throw strikes to start an at bat

  113. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:41 AM

JZim trying to K on Reynolds. Not smart to challenge that guy.

  114. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:42 AM

Reminds me of the Orioles game. With fet way ahead and he quits focusing. Now focus again.Or just score 2 runs for him and he will stay focised.Hitters have started to lose focus already.

  115. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:44 AM

Don't think hitters have lost focus, the Indians brought in a new pitcher.

  116. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:44 AM

Joe, re. Kenny vs. Marv and the Bullets, I will look it up.

  117. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:48 AM

    Great AB by Werth.

  118. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:48 AM

    Werths wrist is definitly fine.

  119. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:48 AM

    Nice at-bat, Jayson.

  120. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:50 AM

Kenny Albert did the Washington basketball team. He lived in Rockville.

  121. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:52 AM

The shift beat ALR that time.

  122. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:52 AM

LaRoche has got to defeat that shift.

  123. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:52 AM

Wasnt Kenny a fill in for Bob Carpenter in Nats broadcasts in 2005.

  124. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:54 AM

"LaRoche has got to defeat that shift."Start going the other way or hit HRs as those beat the shift every time.

  125. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:54 AM

PBS, Kenny's uncle Steve called NBA games, too, I think. Marv had a rather weird biting.Oh, well. Wasted great AB by Jayson.

  126. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:54 AM

thx Nats128, that is what my quick research confirmed…back when it was HTS…remember, Home Team Sports? Mel Proctor and many others, ok back to the Nats…need runs!

  127. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:55 AM

LaRoche is in a mini-slump of his own now. 0 for his last 10.

  128. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:57 AM

You're right, guts, re: Kenny. His dad did more network NBA games. Kenny must have started pretty young.

  129. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:58 AM

Darn auto correct! You're right, guys.

  130. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:58 AM

JZimm does not have his best stuff tonight, that's for sure. Hopefully he can battle through it.

  131. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:59 AM

I am so tired of this teams refusal to work at getting add ons once they jump out front. And I'm really feeling uneasy how Jordan is handling his lead.

  132. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:59 AM

Joe, yes, you are correct, Marv had an encounter at the Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City involving his incisors…see article below for those interested, was all over the press for a long time:http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/marv-albert-faces-sentencing-in-sexual-assault-case

  133. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:02 AM

"And I'm really feeling uneasy how Jordan is handling his lead." Agreed. Is it just me or does Jordan actually do better when he has no margin for error? I think he gets a little to confident and challenges a little too much once he has a lead.

  134. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:04 AM

    This is getting ridiculous.

  135. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:05 AM

This isnt funny any more. 5-0 lead now a 1 run lead.

  136. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:06 AM

Wow. Wow. Wow. What the f**k.

  137. Smatt1001 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:06 AM

    Yikes! There goes the lead.

  138. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:06 AM

    Pull him now, Davey.

  139. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:06 AM

All the damage with 2 outs. Thats what good teams do.

  140. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:07 AM

"Nats 128 said…All the damage with 2 outs. Thats what good teams do"Most of our runs today are with 2 outs too.

  141. Smatt1001 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:07 AM

Going to need the offense to pick JZimm up tonight.

  142. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:08 AM

Jordan challenges hitters when he throws strike 1 and gets ahead of them.Pitching behind in the count is his recipe for disaster.

  143. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:08 AM

"Smatt1001 said…Going to need the offense to pick JZimm up tonight."JZimm needs to be able to make a 5 run lead stick. If we lose this game, it's not on the offense, it's on Zim.

  144. Drew - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:08 AM

    Farfegnugen.

  145. nats guy - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:09 AM

What is it with these guys???????They get a big lead and forget to play the rest of the game. They don't usually come back from games like this. Time for a gut check.

  146. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:09 AM

When Nats score early, they usually never score another run so don't count on a comeback.

  147. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:12 AM

Nats just got a break now capitalize on it.

  148. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:12 AM

You guys are right. These guys stop after they get a lead.

  149. nats guy - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:12 AM

David,Unfortunately, though I luv em to death, they really aren't that good of a team this year. They have some talent but no fight. Time to prove me and others wrong. As I said earlier time for a gut check.

  150. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:12 AM

Ok, Chris, you can hit this guy!

  151. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:13 AM

Marrero better make something happen here or people will be wishing for Chad Tracy or maybe not.

  152. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:15 AM

JZnn's ERA has taken a beating tonight. Now let's see if the RH heavy lineup can score a few runs. Marrero hasn't shown much tonight unfortunately.

  153. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:15 AM

I think Gio is a better hitter than his buddy Marrero.

  154. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:15 AM

never thought I would see what I just saw..J Zim did this verse O's as well fast. He is only fastballs and looks like he is pitching BP.I expect Nats to score more runs in this game

  155. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:16 AM

Marrero showed he couldn't hit major league pitching in 2011 and nothing has changed.

  156. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:16 AM

Yep. Chris Marerro is exactly why there is AAA.

  157. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:16 AM

If Nats lose this game, the sky has fallen…would be an ugly loss

  158. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:18 AM

    Suzuki cant buy a hit.

  159. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:19 AM

In your daily Danny Espinosa update, 1-2 with an infield hit batting from the left side. He also walked once. Now batting .282 (2 for 7).

  160. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:20 AM

    I'm pissed.

  161. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:20 AM

This team Is so frustrating, everytime you think have turned the . corner, they take 2 steps back…Zim's effort tonight is 3 steps back

  162. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:20 AM

Lombo was by the bag. Horrible call.

  163. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:21 AM

I think that was a really bad call at first base. He looked safe.

  164. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:22 AM

Franconia pulls his pitcher early. Davey wakes from His nap and let's his pitcher give up the game. Fire Davey

  165. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:22 AM

And with that, I am retiring to listen to XM and Charlie and Dave for the rest of the nite.Man, I hate Fox.

  166. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:23 AM

where is Davey to argue that call? we get no breaks…this was my point last night when we lost…Davey had no clue the guy was inside the line, if you argue the call and do so the right way, you may get that call at first with Lombo!!!

  167. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:23 AM

umpires in MLB generally suck most are fat arrogant bastards

  168. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:24 AM

Section 135 said…Franconia pulls his pitcher early. Davey wakes from His nap and let's his pitcher give up the game. Fire DaveySilliness and absolute hindsight. It's not like JZimm regularly melts down like this.

  169. Dan Strong - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:24 AM

    This team is a disaster.

  170. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:25 AM

however, the umps will have nothing to do with the Nats losing the game

  171. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:25 AM

NJ, you, and a couple of others of us were skeptical of Marrero. He has looked totally out of his league tonight, so to speak.Lead off walk usually = trouble.

  172. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:26 AM

FOX wont even show the closeup or say it was a bad call just complement the shortstop. That cost the Nats a run and tying the game.

  173. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:27 AM

Davey is the worst in game manager in baseball. Fact. Who cares if we catch the Braves. Neither team has what it takes to make it past the NLDS.

  174. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:27 AM

Joe Seamhead, 5 or 6 atbats is your sample size. Tough crowd.

  175. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:28 AM

    This is hard to watch.

  176. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:29 AM

at 500, 5-0 lead with your ace…I am just floored right now and disgusted. Tribe has no bullpen, if Nats can not come back, tell me what is positive??

  177. Exposremains - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:29 AM

Perfect, offense goes to sleep and Stammen walks the park.

  178. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:30 AM

    Nice turn by Rendon.

  179. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:30 AM

Jordan Zimmerman pitches better with little to no lead. His aggressive style with a big lead has now cost this team twice.

  180. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:31 AM

Have the Nationals ever won a game when they have been on network TV?

  181. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:31 AM

ALR 2 DP's…. NO OONSISTENCY with this team..some guys get hot one night and then they go in the tank…just a sub 500 team I am afraid

  182. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:32 AM

Mick lets get the positivity flowing. To much bad vibes here. Nats got this one. Marrero will get the big hit.

  183. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:32 AM

the most sickening thing are the excuses by the players and mangement and blind blind fans

  184. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:33 AM

Nats128…it is really hard right now, as hard as I try

  185. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:33 AM

If we are under 500 by the trading deadline, I would jettison LaFail and Soriano. Just work towards the future

  186. jeeves - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:33 AM

Not usually, David. But this is twice now that the team has given him a big lead and he has blown it out the window. Top pitchers are not supposed to do that.

  187. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:35 AM

what is with the straight fastball??? Is JZim trying to show off on nat TV?

  188. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:35 AM

Why cant Span do what Rendon did. Every time Span tries to hit a HR the ball goes into a fielders glove. Get singles and doubles.

  189. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:38 AM

sitting Rendon last night was BIZZARRE.. no logic to the move at all…. and no defense for it

  190. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:38 AM

Another multihit game for Rendon. He now has more of them in 16 games than Espi had in 44!

  191. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:38 AM

Ryan Zimmerman cant let that happen looking at a strike 3 like that. Foul the pitch off.

  192. Amr Khani - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:39 AM

Apparently according to the fox team, Virginia Beach is now northern Virginia.

  193. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:39 AM

"Section 222 said… Another multihit game for Rendon. He now has more of them in 16 games than Espi had in 44!"Remind Davey of that when he wants to bring his boy back.

  194. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:39 AM

Nats 128…RZim did that twice last night..

  195. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:39 AM

you can't be looking at strike 3 Ryan, down one with a man on 1b & one out…just foul it off, we are a mess.

  196. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:43 AM

RZim not ready for prime time….fitting this team is not prime either

  197. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:44 AM

paul brandt….reality is, our best players are not good

  198. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:45 AM

Just an observation for you on Jordan Zimmermann. Both meltdown games he has had is playing in an AL park and being DH'd for.JZim is used to his routine which includes batting.

  199. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:45 AM

    K-roll is a bright spot.

  200. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:46 AM

this team is average at best… 85 losses is inevitable

  201. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:47 AM

Well Ian Krol has been good at least.

  202. Dan Strong - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:47 AM

Krol is legit. I love this guy.

  203. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:48 AM

mick, deep breaths…inhale 1-2-3, exhale, 1-2-3..repeat as needed during every Nats loss/meltdown…it works for me, that & making this all funny somehow, we can still win this.

  204. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:49 AM

Krol has been a bright spot… now I think there are too many holes to be good, as soon as one leak is plugged up, 2 more leaks occur in this sinking season

  205. Exposremains - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:50 AM

Its not complicated, when you look good one night and bad the next one, when you look like you turned the corner but you go back to bad habits, you're a .500 team. When you were supposed to be good and your not, you're an underachiever.that's the reality.

  206. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:51 AM

JZim cant stand getting a lead in an AL park.Last 2 innings ended terrible.ALR back in April mode.

  207. David Proctor - Jun 15, 2013 at 9:51 PM

LaRoche tried beating the shift there. The Indians play a unique shift on him though so it didn't work.

  208. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:51 AM

mick, its time these veterans carry this team late in some games with their bats.

  209. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:53 AM

2 hits since the third, Eck no where in sight.

  210. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:54 AM

nats 128 I think they are trying, but they are just not that good.. the so called stars are average and I believe would not start on any of the contending teams…look they are nice young men but mediocre players

  211. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:54 AM

    Chad Tracy is the greatest.

  212. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:54 AM

Well Tracy just saved his job.

  213. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:54 AM

    omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  214. Exposremains - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:55 AM

Tracy just bought himself another. Unbelievable.

  215. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:55 AM

Guess Tracy wants to keep his job. LOL.

  216. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:55 AM

And WE got a run with two outs….

  217. Smatt1001 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:55 AM

    Chad Tracy…

  218. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:55 AM

Just when you thought you've seen everything….

  219. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:55 AM

Wow! Flying pigs! I am so happy for Chad Tracy!

  220. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:56 AM

Suzuki just works him well swinging at the 1st pitch. He also has a plane to catch.

  221. Drew - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:56 AM

    Holy cow!

  222. Exposremains - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:56 AM

    Another month

  223. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:56 AM

    222, LOL! Really!

  224. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:56 AM

    Hanging Chad comes through.

  225. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:57 AM

I'm speechless. Way to go Chad. That was clutch.

  226. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:58 AM

hanging chad for prez!! mick, see mine of 948pm, i scared my dog with my 6 inch vertical.

  227. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:59 AM

"Nats 128 said… Mick lets get the positivity flowing. To much bad vibes here. Nats got this one. Marrero will get the big hit."His replacement got the big hit, so there!

  228. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:59 AM

I'm sorry, Eckstein has a great racket going… its like a 419 scam… free checks for doing nothing… where can I sign up

  229. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:00 AM

    JZ off the hook.

  230. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:01 AM

Now if Suzuki does anything with the bat that will make this night real special!

  231. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:01 AM

    ok, lets see now

  232. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:01 AM

Good goin chagThis kroll has some serious stuff why did we waste time with duke

  233. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:02 AM

How on EARTH did Billy Beane let this guy go????? Only 22.

  234. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:02 AM

K-rol for sure! This guy is unreal.

  235. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:03 AM

NatsLady, the A's soured on him because he used a certain homophobic slur that begins with f and ends with g on his twitter account. They actually suspended him for it.

  236. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:03 AM

    K-rols line is 3 K's facing 5 batters.

  237. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:03 AM

And he works fast too. None of this "deliberate" stuff, just get ball, throw ball.

  238. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:04 AM

Good on you Ian Krol. Verducci was sure impressed. So, has anyone checked the temperature in Hades recently?

  239. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:04 AM

DP, right, now that you mention it. Hopefully Rizzo had a heart-to-heart with him, because that stuff won't fly in DC either.

  240. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:04 AM

Weird to hear Storen referred to as a veteran. I suppose he officially is, but it's still weird.

  241. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:05 AM

Watch storens location. Or lack of

  242. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:05 AM

So Drew is now a "veteran pitcher," according to Verducci. Hmm.

  243. E - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:05 AM

    Get lost Mick.

  244. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:06 AM

Mick aren't you the one that had us lose all 3 to the Twins ans all 3 to the Rockies.Your prediction of 85 losses. Is taken with the same srriousness as that 8 game losing streak.During the wins whete are you, seems to show only in the tough games.

  245. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:08 AM

This would be a good time for Rendon's first homer. He's batting third in the inning, I think.

  246. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:08 AM

OK, guys, I REALLY don't want to lose this game. Do something!!!

  247. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:09 AM

But, either way, GREAT game. Fox must be loving it.

  248. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:11 AM

Lombardozzi is going to be under .200 soon.

  249. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:11 AM

Yeah mick. And lay off my boy Eck! He was working with Tracy minutes before his HR

  250. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:13 AM

Span is sinking fast, offensively. Still love him in CF.

  251. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:13 AM

Rendon gets a second life. What was that?

  252. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:13 AM

    Now homer Rendon

  253. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:13 AM

  268. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:17 AM

This would be a good time for Rendon's first homer. He's batting third in the inning, I think. From your lips to the baseball gods' ears DP. Well played.

  269. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:17 AM

That ball was well low on Zim. If he swings at that it's a groundball.

  270. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:17 AM

U think Rendons mullet is a hazing haircut?

  271. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:18 AM

  275. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:18 AM

NatsLady, the end of last year the A's decided to try Krol as a reliever as he just wasn't making it as a starter. He was losing control and velo as the games went on.Krol was even worse as a reliever with the A's but it was a small sample size of 8 games. He sort of was a throw in on the deal. Some say it was the slur he used which was bad for public relations. Who knows. 5.06 ERA didn't help. In Harrisburg they had him work on fastball command and he's like a new player. There you go, AJ Cole + 2 throw-ins.

  276. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:18 AM

222, I kinda feel the same. He hit a mistake pitch, and it was a wall-scraper. I mean, I'm glad and all, but I don't predict much more.

  321. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:37 AM

Soriano comes from the Tyler Clippard school of late-inning relievers… you either get a heart attack or you don't.

NatsLady said…222, I kinda feel the same. He hit a mistake pitch, and it was a wall-scraper. I mean, I'm glad and all, but I don't predict much more. How do you mean? Rendon has power, but he's not going to hit 30. He's more of a doubles hitter, but he can definitely put one of the park. I'd say he's a 15 homer guy or so, but someone who has followed him more can correct me.

  325. Gonat - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:38 AM

Tracy had a legit HR. Centerfield off a high fastball. That was pro!He saved his job for sure. The 25th man does it and the 2 young guys in Rendon and K-Rol have really helped this team with Rendon getting the Game Winning hit!

  326. sjm308 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:38 AM

Just got on!! – we had this all the way right??Hate to read Mick anymore but he is two away from this so I had to see that he is whinning again about people picking on him – poor Mick – guess that is what you get when you predict 8 losses in a row – I would hate to read what you posted during the game and gladly will not have to.OK – win tomorrow and we win the series. We lost the first game of the last two series and game back to win them. That is what baseball is all about. Just win each series. Go Nats!! suck it up Mick and take the criticism

  327. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:38 AM

DP, we were talking about Tracy, not Rendon.

  328. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:39 AM

Zimmerman had 2-4 night with a HR. Desi had a HR. Jayson Werth had a HR, Chad Tracy had a HR. Rendon hit a HR. They beat our ace, but we won the game. Our boys hung tough. How about Davey bring in Storen after Krol had just knocked down five in a row? A couple of guys are cold right now, but others are picking up some slack. Strasburg back tomorrow. I feel pretty positive, except the Giants let us down.

  329. mick - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:39 AM

so back to J zim…what the heck happen…it looked like every pitch was a high fastball tonight?

He has sucked and he would probably agree with anyone who felt that way. For that moment in time I thought to me myself he could hit it out. For the first time in a long time nobody was bashing the guy. Not a coincidence.

  342. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:50 AM

Soriano has had plenty of clean, no heart attack saves. In 8 of 18 he allowed no hits at all. But tonight, he definitely did a Houdini. Bourn's last out was ripped.

  343. Oldguy - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:50 AM

Judas there's a stunning lack of knowledge of the game in here. Go back and check out the many games Verlander, Sabbathia and others have blown. Jon Lester a day or two ago. One issue, however, has been correctly noted: When you are trying to climb up the ladder, you put your best nine (or ten) guys on the field, assuming they are healthy. I do not understand how Marrero fits into that mold. Cleveland is a decent team; you don't assume anything, even with your ace pitching.

  344. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:51 AM

Mick – If you are going to predict 8 losses in a row, be prepared to take some criticism. Email Mark all you want, I never called you a name or called you out, I just get tired of the constant negativity when we lose and then gung ho when we win. I call that being hippo critical but I will not go as far as what Natsjack suggested. You just get too involved. We are going to lose a few more this season, but hopefully win more then we lose but you already have us out of the playoffs. I am not there yet and still see some hope for this group.Go Nats!!

Told my son that both that Indians' reliever and Nick Swisher got Terry Francona's boot in their ass when they came in from the field.I can hear those guys at the mound: Tracy is hitting .100 with an OPS+ of 2. Just throw strikes! Tracy raises his OPS+ to 5!That homer reminded me of Bernie Carbo's in the 8th of game 6 of the 1975 series, with the same incredibly weak at bat followed by a long homer to center.

  362. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:20 AM

Boy, this was a great game to win. On a night when our starter didn't really have it, the hitters came through and we were able to pull the game out. I remember the Atlanta game where Stras left with an injury, but I'm not sure I remember another game this year that we've won without a decent starting pitcher performance.

  363. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:20 AM

128, yes, I watched the Giants game, and I agree on the fielding and the umps. Still, Romo was not at his killer best. Still can't register that BJ had two homeruns. Oh, well. The Giants on the road are a frail reed.

  364. pwilly - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:22 AM

It's about time the offense wins a game. The Cardinals gave up 7 runs tonight…and won by 6. Sometimes the pitching needs a break.Btw, did you see Werth rubbing his hand and wrist his last at bat? Hope it's nothing.

  365. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:23 AM

sorry for ruffling your feathers, mick. You were hard on the blind, blind fans, of which I guess I am one. And it was an odd time to mention being sick of R. Zimm's slumps on a night when he went 2-4 and had a homer. And that our players wouldn't start on any other teams because they are mediocre. Sorry, man, it brought out a thoughtless response from me.

  366. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:24 AM

On those 2 BJ HRs the balls found the bat. That guy has no clue. He is always swinging from his cleats.

  368. ehay2k - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:30 AM

Well that was interesting. The Indians sure play poorly. But I really want to know if they actually made an Eck bobblehead? No wonder he doesn't teach players to keep their head still! ;-)And Mick, you keep on posting. I will sometimes remind you that it's not quite as bad as it seems, okm

  370. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:33 AM

I stand corrected, 128, he was 1-4 with a walk. I agree with he should foul off some of them. Still, I don't see him in a slump on a night when he hit a dinger and scored twice.

  371. Scott Margenau - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:36 AM

Missed the game– my question is why was Krol lifted for Storen? Storen's pitches having been looking back to his previous filthiness– how did he look ? One batter and he gets the win?

  377. Drew - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:46 AM

Meanwhile, down on the farm, guess who got the win against Syracuse today. It was none other than ex-Nat Shawn Hill, apparently transported to Toledo via the way back machine. He's trying to hang on, but struggling. After today's gem he's 1-8.

What a roller-coaster ride tonight. But all's well that ends well. Good night peeps and Happy Father's Day to all of us dads!

  382. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:55 AM

Thanks, Sonny, same back at you and the rest of you guys.

  383. baseballswami - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:56 AM

Nice!!! Love to see Storen's slider and nerve in a tough spot. But still- one out and you get a win?

  384. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:58 AM

We were losing until Chad Tracy tied it with a homer, as I said wow, flying pigs

  385. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:05 AM

Storen came in after Tracy's HR to a tie game and got the last out in the bottom of the eighth. Rendon hit a dinger off the Indian's closer in the top of the ninth to put us up by one. Soriano pitched the bottom of the 9th, making Storen the pitcher of record. On Rendon's AB,the Tribe let a foul ball drop slightly down the first base line, giving Anthony another shot, which he took advantage of.

  386. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:08 AM

Yep. One batter gets ya de win. Dem's de rules of baseball scoring….Ask Clippard what ya gots to do to win de All Star game….

  387. baseballswami - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:14 AM

So wait– Jordan was not good and Tracy hit a homerun?????? What is this– some kind of alternate baseball universe??

  388. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:18 AM

Jordan was not good against the O's and Tracy did not hit a homer that game, so that should have served as a transitional phase (faze?) for us all. Where did this notion come from that top pitchers never have bad games? It happens all the time to Verlander (in the All Star game even), to Sabathia, to Walter Johnson, even to teams with a six run lead at home and the NL's leading winner in 2012. Hardly unusual, really, just sort of unlikely…..

  389. pwilly - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:20 AM

Man, the FOX broadcast was awful. Seemed like half of it was scripted. Rendon's double happened in the middle of a story about Jason Giambi and they barely mentioned it. They finally talked about him after his homer in the 9th, like they had to turn to his page in they're notes.

  390. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:21 AM

Seriously, the Nats spotted JZ a 5-0 lead and he blew it. No bad plays behind him either.he left losing 6-5. Tracy pretty much muscled a two strike, high fastball out.

  391. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:25 AM

That was a terrible pitch to Tracy, goddess bless him, and the Charlottean smacked it out of the park to deep center. Both his ball and Rendon's barely cleared the wall.Yes, the Fox announcers were awful. How can an excellent writer like Verducci be so bad on the air? He wouldn't be quiet and he and Albert kept talking about things that only had marginal relevance to the matters at hand. Less is more….

  392. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:27 AM

Chris Marrero got the start at DH and had a tough game: 3 K's against three different pitchers.I know many here want him to get a start at 1B, but I hope it's not tomorrow with SS on the mound.

  393. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:27 AM

Tracy's HR might have just scraped the wall, but he didn't get cheated. He hit it to the deepest part of the field.

  394. b29d68ba-a878-11e2-8215-000bcdcb5194 - Jun 16, 2013 at 10:11 AM

A couple of notes from the last two games:1. Jayson was getting called out on "strikes" below his knees, especially on Friday. Don't the umpires notice that he's a bit taller than some of the other players?2. Rendon's smile as he rounded the bases could light up a room.3. Gio was cussing himself out as he came back in the dugout after the sixth inning Friday night.4. The food at Progressive Field is not very good compared to DC. The beer, however, is not bad at all.5. Thanks to the Sec. 311 folks who stopped by to say "hi" when they heard us chanting N-A-T-S NATS! Whoo!after the first five runs.6. Amazing how quiet that stadium was after Rendon's homer, considering how noisy it was the rest of the night.Sorry we can't stay for today's game. GYFNG!ArVAFan

  395. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 10:36 AM

Rendon was moved up in the lineup to where I thought he should be. Actually, he should be in the fourth or fifth position. Had he been in the game the night before, the Nationals would have won. We were lucky last night it was he who had the second chance to hit the homer. Anyone else would have had a clutch strike-out. Way to go big Tony!!

  396. capitalbeltwaysportsblog.com - Jun 16, 2013 at 11:13 AM

What an unbelievable win last night! A win today would mark the 3rd straight series win & the 2nd straight road series win.

  397. Candide - Jun 16, 2013 at 11:41 AM

Ghost Of Steve M. said… Krol … sort of was a throw in on the deal. Some say it was the slur he used which was bad for public relations.I'm thinking it was more than just the slur – you have to factor in where he was playing at the time – Oakland is just across the bay from San Francisco. It's like playing in New York and going antisemitic.Or be managing the Marlins and speaking admiringly about Fidel Castro…Betcha a bag of peanuts he's been sent to Crash Davis Cliches 101 class. Keep saying, "Gotta play 'em one game at a time," and the worst thing anyone will ever say about you is that you're a boring interview – until you blow a save.

  398. Scott Margenau - Jun 16, 2013 at 11:47 AM

    No instant analysis?

  399. Nats 128 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:20 PM

"Joe Seamhead said… I stand corrected, 128, he was 1-4 with a walk. I agree with he should foul off some of them. Still, I don't see him in a slump on a night when he hit a dinger and scored twice."Def not in a slump. The person who was bashing him hard was living on each pitch.Interestly, the problems seemed to start after the Nats came up with no RBIs with bases loaded. 1 run scored on a doubleplay. That was deflating.Situational hitting needs to improve. I'm off to Fathers Day brunch. Happy Fathers Day to all the dads and our main man Mark!

  400. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:32 PM

Great to get your report ArlVAFan. That must have been great fun last night. Did the Indians fans catch you when you keeled over from shock when Tracy hit one out?I didn't mind the Fox broadcast that much, but I was sorry not to be able to hear Davey's postgame. Is there video or audio of that anywhere?Someone up thread said they hope Stras goes six tonight. I hope he goes four or five and is healthy afterward. I think our bullpen can handle a little more work if needed. Clip and Abad are rested. Is Cedeno still out in the BP or did he go down for Stras?

  401. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:39 PM

Section 222…. it's not the broadcast and commentators that make me hate Fox….. it's the fact that they have to have 4 or 5 regional games at the same time which means if the Yankees are one of the teams, Florida gets only that game. There are only 2 more scheduled Fox broadcasts for the Nats and one of those is in Miami so I'll be at that game. The other is against the Mets so there's a chance I'll get that one.Happy Fathers Day to all you guys out there, especially Mark.

  402. Gonat - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:39 PM

I guess Ohlendorf is the long man today. If its Haren, I wouldn't be shocked. Go Stras!

  403. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:49 PM

Heck, Deuces, while were throwing out hopes for Strasburg, I hope he throws a complete game no-no, and is healthy afterwards!Good grief did the Braves back in to a win yesterday. They, like us, benefited from an error in the 9th. A guy on first, one out, and a made to order game ending, double play ball goes under the Giant's SS glove. Arrrggh! I also thought ArlVA Fan's post was a fun read. It sounded like that stadium just completely deflated when Rendon knocked his homer out.Chad Tracy had 2 strikes low in the zone called on him before he muscled the high fastball out. It must of felt akin to the governor calling with a reprieve at the 11th hour. Man, talk about hanging on by a thread. So, is it decided who goes down today when Strasburg gets activated?

  404. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:01 PM

Totally forgot about Ohlendorf! Thanks Gonat. I wouldn't be surprised if Davey babies Stras and has Ohlendorf ready to go for the fifth or sixth. He better have good movement on his pitches. After Stras, his fastball is going to seem like BP.

  405. Muddy - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:13 PM

Rendon, like Harper before him, is a joy to watch. His hitting and fielding is not only very sweet but it looks like he's having fun and enjoying the game. As we all know, there's not been a lot of joy-to-watch this year. Morse and Harper filled that bill last year, along with the starting pitching. I'm looking forward to seeing Rendon and Harper in the lineup at the same time (hurry Harp!), along with out-of-his-funk Span who's reaching his career average OBP (.354, now .311); a healthy and comfortable Werth playing every day; Ramos back (take you time, Wilson); and all five starters healthy and grinding.

  406. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:59 PM

Agreed on every point, Muddy.Something that I don't think has been mentioned about last night's game, and that is Adam LaRoche made a hell of a catch on the scorcher off of Bourn's bat. Fox didn't show any good replay of it, but if you look at this clip it looks like Adam was in a pretty contorted position as he made the play. I had to watch it a couple of times and stop it to see the catch. Did anybody else see any other shot of the play? http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=28063429&c_id=mlb

  407. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:01 PM

NJ, I'm totally with you on Fox "coverage." I was in Roanoke a few weeks ago, and instead of the Nats, the Fox game was Yankee-Red Sox, perhaps because the Sox farm team is nearby in Salem, VA. But still…

  408. capitalbeltwaysportsblog.com - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:16 PM

What a great game. Phenomenal performance by the bullpen.

  409. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:23 PM

    Happy Fathers Day

  410. Exposremains - Jun 16, 2013 at 2:53 PM

As I said before there's a few ways that you can bypass fox stupid blackouts . They stick it to you, you can stick it to them.Never understood the concept that a fan will say: i'm a Nats fan and watch all of their games and read about them every day but oh look fox is showing the Yankees and Red Sox i'm gonna care about these 2 teams and disregard the one I follow every day.

  411. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:19 PM

exposremains, huh? Who said anything about caring about the Yankees and/or Red Sox?
