Game 68: Nats at Indians

Jun 16, 2013, 3:38 PM EST

What a game it was between these two last night. The Nationals smacked five homers off just eight hits, including Anthony Rendon's go-ahead shot to opposite field in the ninth. In his first game hitting second in the order, the rookie certainly made his case to stay. And after seeing his offense wake up after a bit of a lineup change, Davey Johnson is going with a similar look today.

The Nationals will have Stephen Strasburg (3-5, 2.54 ERA) back who was reinstated from the disabled list this morning. He last pitched on May 31 before leaving after two innings against the Atlanta Braves. This is his first time pitching at Progressive Field since the second start of his career. If you remember, Strasburg had issues with the mound condition that day, but still went 5 1/3 innings with only two hits and a run allowed.

Pitching for Cleveland is third-year pro Corey Kluber (4-4, 4.08) who has really hit his stride as of late. Through his last six starts he is 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 35 innings.

Enjoy the game…

Corey Kluber???…another baseball name gone wrong. The kid should have been a hitter! LOL

  2. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:46 PM

Tracy has earned his start. Glad to see Solano.

  3. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:47 PM

Uh-oh. If Kluber has hit his stride lately, he ought to go through us like that knife through butter. Yep, finally Johnson has moved Rendon up in the lineup. Our only trouble now is the 3-4-5 positions, you know, the clutch strikeout guys. Hope SS is back in form. I'm still waiting for the final collapse of the team though. Hey, it's what we've come to expect. Now, on the bright side….???…never mind.

  4. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:47 PM

Hey folks… Happy Father's Day to ya! I will have to listen to XM since I'm away …Looking forward to the game (and hopefully the win!)

  5. SonnyG10 - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:48 PM

I'd like to see how Solano handles Strasburg. Kurt sure could use a rest.

  6. Kirbs - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:50 PM

I'm glad Rendon earned starting everyday against rightys.

  7. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:52 PM

Solano calls a good game, too… I'm glad Zook is out… He needs like an entire series off…. I wonder if SS will be on a pitch count/limit today….

  8. karlkolchak - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:35 PM

Kirbs – Rendon has proven that he should be starting every day against everybody. Kid looks like a true professional hitter. I know it is way too early for such comparisons, but today Baseball Reference's 162 game projection for Rendon looks a lot like a typical Wade Boggs season.

  9. Nats Fan in Brazil - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:49 PM

Im the only who thinks span should not be leading off?

  10. Laddie Blah Blah - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:50 PM

When you win one where your best pitcher loses a 5-run lead, your worst hitter gets you back in the game, and then your best hitter fouls out weakly in the 9th, only he doesn't, and then hits the game-winning HR, then maybe its Kismet. If the Nats can take their 2nd straight series on the road, and their 3rd straight, overall, then Nats Nation can start to take their chances seriously, again.Rendon belongs in the 2-hole. He went 3 of 5 last night (almost half the team's 8 hits), including the game winner, scored 2 runs and knocked in another (the game winner) with his solo HR. That may be more than all the other 2-hole hitters have accomplished all year long, in just one game.Solano gets an important test, calling the game for SS. Marrero takes a seat. Too much pressure, maybe, for Chris to handle? Tracy at 3rd – can he do it, again? Davey is still working around Harper's absence and using the DH to take a look at some others. Plenty of guys getting a chance to show what they can do. But when Harp comes back, Davey's lineup looks set with Span, Rendon, Harp, Ryan from 1 to 4. As usual, Davey will alternate catchers and, perhaps, flip ALR (against righties) and Werth (against lefties) in the 5 – 6 slots. That is one heck of a lineup. How many teams have a guy like Desi batting 7th? And Desi seems to do better the farther down the lineup he goes. When Ramos finally comes off the DL, Davey will have his hairy chested power guys coming to the plate from the 2-hole all the way down to the 8-hole.With a revamped pen, all the starters back, and, at last, some meaningful contributions from the bench, Davey has the team he thought he did in spring training.Anthony Rendon is making a big difference. And he is just going to get better. I mean, he is scary good with the stick.

Wi today and it is 3 straight series the satart of the return.

"Boy, just wait until (insert star's name here) gets back! Then we'll be tearing it all up!" The way this season has been going, it should be more like, "Wait until (insert star's name here) gets back! Then someone else is gonna get injured…" It's like the baseball gods are mad at us or something. But, boy, just wait until Harp and Rendon are batting 2-3!

  14. Joe Seamhead - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:05 PM

Cedeno was the one to get sent back down.

  15. MicheleS - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:07 PM

Happy Father's Day to all our Dads, and most especially Brian's Dad – Mark!Merry Strasmas everyone! GYFNG!

  16. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:08 PM

Jeez, I didn't realize Span's Home/Road splits were so bad .201 on the road, .317 at home.

  17. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:10 PM

Just another double for Anthony Rendon.

  18. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:11 PM

Heck, let Rendon serve as hitting coach too.

  19. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:13 PM

Oh that was a nasty pitch.

  20. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:13 PM

Zim need to be more aggressive in the3 hole with men on, especially with LaFail and Werth's behind him.

  21. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:17 PM

I don't recall Zim ever looking at so many Called Strike 3's before. I mean, that was a nasty pitch so I'm not blaming him for this one specifically, but it's been an ongoing thing. It's weird.

  22. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:17 PM

Bryce swings early in the count with men on base because he knows they won't give him anything late in the count. Don't understand why Zim can't do that.

  23. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:18 PM

Wasted another double by Rendon. Good old Zimmerman struck out on cue. At least LaRoche hit the ball. Can't fault him there. Getting Zim and Werth off the team can't come soon enough.

  24. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:19 PM

Oh god. None of those pitches were even close. The only strike was on a failed bunt.

  25. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:26 PM

    Settle down now, Stras

  26. EmDash - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:27 PM

Hmm. Stras doesn't look real comfortable so far. Hope he's actually okay and they're not rushing him back too fast. Of course, he didn't have a rehab start, so maybe he's just rusty?Gotta figure he's on an 80-ish pitch limit like Detwiler was.

  27. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:29 PM

His velocity has already hit 98 so I'd say he's fine. Just wild.

  28. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:29 PM

I think in the Carp and FP drinking game, "lettin' the ball travel" should be added to "serious jammage." Maybe also "gettin' on top of it."

  29. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:32 PM

    Gettin' on top of it!!

  30. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:32 PM

He let the ball travel too, I'm sure. FP just didn't have time to mention it.

  31. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:40 PM

    Better inning that time.

  32. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:54 PM

SS is settling down, just seems to take him an inning or more to get in a groove.

  33. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 5:59 PM

Indians bailing out Zim. I'll take it.

  34. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:01 PM

If Rendon keeps hitting, we'll never have to see Danny again.

  35. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:01 PM

Unlike alot of Nats hitters, you know that Anthony Rendon sees every ball come off his bat. He actually sees the moment of contact.

  36. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:03 PM

Worst middle of the lineup in baseball in my opinion.

  37. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:03 PM

ALR anither called strike out when man is on third less than 2 outs

  38. Drew - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:08 PM

Jiminy Christmas. Just put the ball in play, Jayson.

  39. Depot Master - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:09 PM

    Two batters, no contact.

  40. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:09 PM

Pathetic. Why does Desmond not bat 5th. LaFail needs to go. His slumps are unbearable. The truth is aside from Rendon and Harper there aren't any great hitters on this team. Zim, Desi and LaRoche occasionally get hot but aren't that great overall

  41. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:09 PM

I don't know if I can handle all this clutch hitting with RISP. This has been going on all season and it is painful to watch. Zimmerman, Werth and Laroche are the biggest culprits.

  42. Depot Master - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:10 PM

    Make that 3.

  43. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:10 PM

    Ugh.

  44. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:10 PM

Rendon should bat in the clean up spot.

  45. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:12 PM

No comment on what happened in that last inning. Well, ok, one comment. Our "big boppers" are pathetic with men on base.Rendon now has 6 multi-hit games in his 16 games this year . Espi had 4 in 44. He also has a shot for his second 3-hit game. The last time Espi did that was September 24 of last year. I think I'll keep keep tracking of this. At least one thing is going right.

  46. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:12 PM

Davey please do us a favor keep Rendon and Harper from Eck.The vets have way too much Eck in them already. Just hit the ball to the outfield with man on third no outs. Tou dont K especially looking.

  47. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:13 PM

UNBELIEVABLE!!! These guys really must be trying for those strikeouts! Come on! First and third no outs. LaRoche strike out, on cue. Werth strike out, on cue. Desmond strike out, on cue. You know the Rabbit's right. These guys are BAD! Ugh. So predictable.

  48. Drew - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:13 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach John McKay on his team's execution:"I'm all in favor of it."

  49. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:14 PM

Rendon should bat in the clean up spot. Can he hit 1st, 2nd, and 4th?

  50. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:15 PM

0 for 5 RISP.Terrible situational hitting still.Arg Eck either coach them or get out of town. Dont just sit there with your book. That is stat keeping not coaching. I can stat keep

  51. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:15 PM

    Section 222 said…Rendon should bat in the clean up spot.Can he hit 1st, 2nd, and 4th?____________________________________________And 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th.

  52. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:17 PM

Despite last night's win we were 0for 5 RISP, ndians were 3 for 7

  53. Ghost Of Steve M. - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:18 PM

    Situational hitting. ugh

  54. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:19 PM

The Indians had a base hit with a RISP. That's allowed? I figured there must be a rule against it and that's why we never do it.

  55. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:20 PM

Zim should apologize to fans for his pathetic play this year. He pulled an absolute heist on this org with his contract. Davey pleading to resign LaFail. Horrible leadership there.

  56. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:20 PM

First chance with man in scoring position they hit. When will be free of the Eck curse.?

  57. EmDash - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Problem isn't necessarily RISP hitting. It's hitting in general – every team fails to take advantage of opportunities. But when you only get 4 baserunners, one on an error, you don't get the opportunities nearly often enough. The team OBP is way too low, and that's the problem in a nutshell.

  58. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:23 PM

Our hitters just do not focus in needed situations. Until they do we will all be frustrated.

  59. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:24 PM

We are 14th out of 15.

  60. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:24 PM

Laroche hitting 239. Zim 270. Werth 257. Our 3-5 hitters.

  61. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:27 PM

Look at Zim and Werth. The more they're paid, the less they have to focus. They have already duped the team, now just grab the money and run …or strike out. BUMS.

  62. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:29 PM

Sigh. If you think Zim, Werth, ALR or anyone else on this team isn't trying, I don't know what to tell you.

  63. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:29 PM

No matter who the catching they cant throw anyone out. Why? Terrible holding by pitchers. Of course lead off walk comes back to bite Stras's ass.

  64. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:30 PM

Adam La Roche with the worst at bat of the season, closely followed by Jayson Werth and Ian Desmond.

  65. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:31 PM

I dont use the word not trying, though the real word is execution, their execution is very week.

  66. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:37 PM

The righty lefty thing only works when players can at least hit somewhat. Bernadina has no clue what he is doing out there.

  67. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:39 PM

Bernadina is hitting like .300 over the last month. He started off so awful that his overall numbers are down, but Shark has been fine lately.

  68. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:39 PM

Span's average goes lower and lower…..

  69. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:40 PM

Yeah, if a guy goes 1-3 in 3 at bats, that does put you over .300. His performance this year has been execrable on offense.

  70. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:41 PM

We are stuck with Werth, but Zim is a different story. Although his career is headed in the same direction as Werth's, he still has trade value until his onerous, no trade, 6 year, $100 million contract kicks in. On the surface, his stats don't look too bad but he pads them during a couple of hot streaks during the season while the rest of the time he is simply awful.

  71. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:41 PM

William O. Douglas Loeffler said…Yeah, if a guy goes 1-3 in 3 at bats, that does put you over .300. His performance this year has been execrable on offense. You know good and well that's not the case. Bernadina has gotten quite a few at-bats and been fine.

  72. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:42 PM

Ok, runner on second for the Nats. No one out. Cue 'em up guys.

  73. EmDash - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:43 PM

Zimm's OPS+ is 124, with 100 being average. LaRoche's is 106, which means he's been great in May and June after his very poor April. Desmond's is 122. Those guys generally aren't the problem, whatever happens today. They should be putting Kobernus in for Span now, right?

  74. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:44 PM

    Span refuses to take home.

  75. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:45 PM

Our guys just stand there with the bat on their shoulders….

  76. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:45 PM

    Eck gotta go

  77. Drew - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:45 PM

Lord, what a hitter.Great pitch recognition and he lines a frozen rope to right. Just exquisite.'

  78. phil dunton - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:45 PM

By the way, for those saying: Dump Laroche—-he has no trade value. There was very limited interest in him during the off season and with his horrible 2013 stats and a $24 million contract there would be even less interest now.

  79. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:45 PM

Rendon and harper stay away from Eck please.

  80. EmDash - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:46 PM

Jewett stopped him, not Span's fault.

  81. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:46 PM

    You have to make contact.

  82. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:47 PM

    Zim suckssssssssssss

  83. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:47 PM

Rendon could hit at Rice,so this is not a surprise just keep him away from Eck.

  84. Drew - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:47 PM

    For God's sake!

  85. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:47 PM

    Let's bunt

  86. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:48 PM

Quit striking out with men on third. Simply unacceptable

  87. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:49 PM

    Wow.

  88. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:49 PM

I am only following on game track. Was there any chance could score on Rendon's hit or was it hit too hard?

  89. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:50 PM

MNF, it was probably hit too hard, but the outfielder dropped the ball. Span had already been held up and he hurt himself by fouling the ball off his foot so he wasn't running very well.

  90. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:50 PM

La Roche is an maddening today. Last time a double play brings a run home but Adam was too lazy to swing. This time he hits into a double play.

  91. SCNatsFan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:50 PM

    What happened to clutch hitting?

  92. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:50 PM

For crying out lound why are these hitters not executing? Just need to fl to the outfield

  93. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:51 PM

So jewitt will send slow runners sent a fast runner we score.

  94. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:51 PM

I'd rather have Espinosa bat now than Zim or Laroche. At least he'll probably swing.

  95. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:52 PM

Adam couldn't put us through three strikeouts with no outs runners on first and third. Just hit a double play after the first strikeout. No problem. These guys have it DOWN! Now I feel bad for Rendon, he has no support. And how about SS! Back and pitching with no support. Ugh.

  96. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:52 PM

Ryan Zimmerman's at bat was pathetic this inning.

  97. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:52 PM

    Eck gotta go

  98. Manassas Nats' Fan - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:53 PM

I know Eck doesnt tell him to do this, but Obviously he doesnt prepare them to not do it.

  99. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Zimmerman did not even come close to putting the bat on the ball.

  100. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:54 PM

Rendon deserves to cut ALR's hair after what the two of them have done the last two times up.

  101. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:54 PM

So glad we traded Morse and got a lead-off hitter who can't even score from second on an outfield single, lol….

  102. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:55 PM

Zim has officially renounced his FOF label. He is now just some guy that can play a decent first base. That label goes to Bryce and Rendon.

  103. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:56 PM

This is mostly Rendon's fault for only hitting doubles and singles instead of homer runs.

  104. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:56 PM

Trent Jewitt is the worst…. Situational hitting is terrible…

  105. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Over and over, we have a runner on third and no outs and we have no possibility of bringing the guy in. Jewett had no business not sending Span.

  106. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 6:59 PM

Because of the way the line-up is falling, we may only have one last chance to score in the 8th. Not expecting much this inning.

  107. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:00 PM

We got time…. Come on Nats… Lets do this!

  108. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:00 PM

By the way, Rendon now has had his second 3-hit game in the 16 he's played this year. Espi didn't have any in his 44 games this year, and had 6 games of 3 or more hits all last year in the 160 games he played.

  109. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:00 PM

Bryce should hit cleanup when he returns. Desmond 5th. LaFail 6th. Werth 7 or lead off.

  110. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:01 PM

I am really perturbed by Zimmerman and La Roche's at bats in this game.

  111. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:02 PM

    Eck must go

  112. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:02 PM

Come to think of it, he should cut Zim's hair too. Ugly hitting.

  113. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:03 PM

Another RISP. Can we find a way to strand him?

  114. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:04 PM

Your best hitters should hit one and two. 3rd is pushing it. Sports Illustrated just did an article on this. Clean-up hitters get far fewer at bat. Lucky double by Werth but I'll take it. He may get tired standing out there on 2nd, however.

  115. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:04 PM

I listened to FP and changed seats, next pitch Werth doubles!

  116. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:04 PM

If Zim didn't come to camp so fat and out of shape maybe he could still play.

  117. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:05 PM

We are all set up for a double play.

  118. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:05 PM

Do our guys get a bonus for players LOB?

  119. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:06 PM

Section 135 said…If Zim didn't come to camp so fat and out of shape maybe he could still play.June 16, 2013 3:04 PMYeah, Prince Fielder sucks.

  120. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:07 PM

    Error?

  121. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:07 PM

We are really set up for a double play now!

  122. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Hey William, a double play would be a rally right now. It would score a run.

  123. Secret wasian man - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:08 PM

I have taken a break to cool off. In Cleveland with my fam for all 3 games and to visit college. My goodness is this just totally frustrating. I cant remember when ive seen so many awful ABs in crunch time

  124. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:08 PM

Bases loaded…. No outs… Lets score at least 2 runs….

  125. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:09 PM

    Told you!

  126. Drew - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:09 PM

I picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue

  127. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:09 PM

    Holy sh*t we suck

  128. Secret wasian man - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:10 PM

Are you kidding? just not meant to be

  129. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:10 PM

I expected a double play from catcher to first. That was just as bad.

  130. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:10 PM

I now need a new remote.

  131. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:11 PM

This is absolutely unbelievable. Hard to watch. Wow. I'm speechless.

  132. SCNatsFan - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:11 PM

And yet another base running error by the Nats. This team isn't good enough to give outs away.

  133. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:11 PM

    Wow. That's just beyond terrible.

  134. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Lombardozzi with the knuckledheaded play. Bernadina with the pathetic weak grounder.

  135. Secret wasian man - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:11 PM

    that's just terrible.

  136. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Wow…. This was just terrible…. I'm trying to understand what The Onion was trying to do….

  137. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:11 PM

I think Lombo needs to go back to the minors.

  138. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:12 PM

Bases loaded. No outs. No surprise result. BUMS!

  139. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:12 PM

The Onion was trying to send the ball opposite field. He hit it decently, but right at Reynolds. I don't fault Solano, I fault Lombardozzi for being doubled off. Unacceptable.

  140. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:13 PM

If Stras loses this game I hope every player (except Rendon, and maybe Werth) gets down his kneed to apologize.

  141. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:13 PM

Span could have scored easily and we don't run. Then Lombo runs when we have no business running.

  142. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:14 PM

Strasburg had some horrible walks. If he doesn't walk that guy, it is 0-0.

  143. Knoxville Nat - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:14 PM

Nats pitchers should sue for non support (despite last night), this is the most pathetic situational hitting

  144. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:15 PM

    Why is Lombardozzi playing second?

  145. Secret wasian man - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Solano is terrible. swung at 3 balls. Lombo asleep. Just not good players. Gonna be a long ride home.

  146. baseballswami - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:15 PM

This is just so hard to watch.

  147. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Strasburg was rusty, but you can't pin this loss on him.

  148. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:15 PM

    Where is Rendon playing now?

  149. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Thanks David… I'm listening to C and D…. And they didnt go into great detail… But this is terrible… The Nats deserve to lose this game… Way to many left on base…But we are only down 1… Come on guys… Lets do this!!!

  150. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Well, you don't want him playing third (Lombo, that is).

  151. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:16 PM

This game is easily the most frustrating of the entire year. I can't believe how absolutely awful we look. This is worse than a blowout.

  152. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:16 PM

Oh no! Lombo at 2B and Rendon at 3B? But, but, but, I thought it was an awful idea to move Rendon to another position while he's learning 2B. The horrors!

  153. Knoxville Nat - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:16 PM

And I'm starting to join the chorus that says Eck needs to go.

  154. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:16 PM

So Zimmerman got taken out for Lombo????

  155. baseballswami - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:16 PM

And plenty of blame to go around. Every person has done something wrong today. Even darling Anthony.

  156. Secret wasian man - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:16 PM

William O. There is no way you can blame any of this on pitching. Bats are embarrassing.

  157. TexNat - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:16 PM

    Is Zim hurt?

  158. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:17 PM

Why would you trade Zimmerman's bat for Lombo's?

  159. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:17 PM

Rendon is playing third–which makes it more of a mystery why he didn't play on Friday.

  160. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:17 PM

dumb play by Lombo but even if he got back, the inning ends with Bernie's double play ball, 6-4-3. Rendon with a HR next inning could be our only hope.

  161. baseballswami - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:17 PM

What has Zim done for us today?

  162. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:17 PM

Zimmerman is DHing. He hasn't been at 3rd the entire game. Zim is still in the game.

  163. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:18 PM

For Tracy then? Okay. Mea Culpa.

  164. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:18 PM

I don't think that they have hit a single ball to 3rd today.

  165. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:19 PM

This comment has been removed by the author.

  166. Secret wasian man - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:19 PM

Because unlike Zimmerman Lombo actually was able to put some wood on the ball

  167. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:20 PM

3 times with a runner on 3rd and nobody out and zero (0) runs!

  168. NatsLady - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:20 PM

    Jeez, the catcher steals???? Unreal.

  169. Faraz Shaikh - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:22 PM

oye oye oye, what is the lineup doing now? wake up guys.we are 2 for 11 with RISP but zero runs and they are 1 for 1 with one run.

  170. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:24 PM

Guys look really languid. Span couldn't be bothered to run to second or to home.

  171. baseballswami - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:24 PM

    This is almost comically tragic.

  172. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:24 PM

How is Span looking? I'm trying to understand why Jewitt didnt send him on Rendon's hit a few innings ago….

  173. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:24 PM

Unless we get a home run, we're done. Rendon is our only real hope to get a hit but the law of probability is against him. Outside of him though, what do we have? Not much of anything. Ok, cue 'em up guys. But try to hit the ball! At least give it a chance. Ugh.

  174. jeffwx - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:24 PM

3 times with a runner on 3rd and nobody out and zero (0) runs! the fact of the day…what happened to the art of the sac fly… sound's like we'd have a better chance with the squeeze with solano/bernadinaI think we have a disadvantage with the DH unless we bat our pitchers.

  175. baseballswami - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:25 PM

    Span hobbled again?

  176. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:26 PM

Carp: "And then Ryan Zimmerman, who always comes alive in key situations."Um, except his last time up when there were runners on 1st and 3rd with none out….

  177. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:27 PM

    Horribly managed and coached game.

  178. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:27 PM

    swing for the fence zim!

  179. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:28 PM

    Fat guy of the franchise

  180. SCNatsFan - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:29 PM

And yet another new guy we make look like Cy Young. Seems like the list grows every series. And Davey continues to support Eck. Just like with so many others, this team needs things to get horrific before changes are made. Eck gets more rope then HRod.

  181. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:29 PM

Maybe our guys had a few too many drinks last night?

  182. Rabbit34 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:30 PM

    Too predictable.

  183. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:30 PM

Zimmerman with the weak grounder we desperately needed when he flailed and struck out with a guy on third and no outs.

  184. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:31 PM

La Roche stood there and let a decent pitch go by with 0 outs and a man on third.

  185. Secret wasian man - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:31 PM

Zimmerman and ALR are robbing this organization blind. Just horrendous with things matter.

  186. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:32 PM

How many pitches will it take to get us out in the 9th?

  187. BigCat - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:33 PM

Make ray knight hitting coach. Keep eck as batting practice pitcher so he doesn't get offended

  188. Secret wasian man - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:33 PM

well now we don't have to worry about losing 1 0. .500 baseball for 3 more months.

  189. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:33 PM

Davey has no business playing Lombardozzi or Bernadina except for late innings defense and yet, he trots them out in the starting line-up game after game after game.

  190. jeffwx - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:35 PM

and that's the problem…you feel you can't score unless you hit a hr cause you can't rely on the other 8 guys in the lineup to hit with RISP…so the big boys pressure themselves to go for for the fences with poor results. the bernadina experiment is nearing an end. so the indians sac because they think they can get the run in.

  191. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:36 PM

Since May 28, Bernadina is hitting .300/.378/.525. That's with 40 ABs. But don't let facts get in the way.

  192. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:36 PM

Indians execute. We have Lombardozzi not paying attention during the game as a base runner.

  193. Section 135 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:36 PM

We are so bad without Bryce. He is our only hope.

  194. paul brandt - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:36 PM

not sure why we pitched to their best hitter this series, it may as well be 8-0 now.

  195. Greg Essner - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:36 PM

DAVEY A TRUE MORON THINK IS SENILE.RIZZO NEEDS TO BE GONE A INVESTIGATED FOR INTERSTATE FRAUD,I WILL NOT BE GOING TO ANY MORE HOME GAMES,LET THEM GET HIT IN THE POCKET BOOK MAYBE CHANGE WILL THEN HAPPEN TRULY AN EMBARACEMENT TO THIS CITY AWFULL

  196. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:37 PM

    Indians executed… But we didnt…

  197. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:37 PM

There is no way that we can get two runs in an inning.

  198. Section 222 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:37 PM

Gee, now that wasn't hard was it?

  199. David Proctor - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:38 PM

Greg Essner said…DAVEY A TRUE MORON THINK IS SENILE.RIZZO NEEDS TO BE GONE A INVESTIGATED FOR INTERSTATE FRAUD,I WILL NOT BE GOING TO ANY MORE HOME GAMES,LET THEM GET HIT IN THE POCKET BOOK MAYBE CHANGE WILL THEN HAPPEN TRULY AN EMBARACEMENT TO THIS CITY AWFULLJune 16, 2013 3:36 PMI'm speechless.

  200. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:39 PM

Lombo needs to go down and learn to hit. Tracy needs to retire after his big moment. Bernadina needs to only bunt and play late inning defense. Davey thinks we are the 70's Orioles who had excellent bench players both righty and lefty.
