Game 73: Rockies at Nats

Jun 21, 2013, 7:23 PM EDT

Mark Zuckerman / NATS INSIDER

Winners of two straight, the Nats will look for their three consecutive wins for the first time since May 10. Stephen Strasburg (3-6, 2.50 ERA) takes the mound for his second start since being activated from the disabled list. He will face the Colorado Rockies for the third time in his young career. Both of his previous starts have resulted in losses with a 3.75 ERA across 12 total innings against the club.

Pitching for the Rockies is 23 year old right-hander Tyler Chatwood (4-1, 2.33). The former second round pick has been a nice surprise for Colorado this season with the best ERA in their rotation. He has never faced the Nationals before in his three major league seasons.

Today will be the second of the four-game series between the two teams. Dating back to their previous series this season, the Nationals have won three straight against the Rockies with five runs scored in each of those games.

Stay tuned for updates throughout the game…

  7. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:16 AM

    Drew Storen is back!

  8. David Proctor - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:17 AM

Let's add a run or two for Untuck. He likes to put men on base before escaping. I don't want to worry.

  9. paul brandt - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:18 AM

davey, keep drew in for the 9th.

  10. phil dunton - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:19 AM

Nats Jack, His nickname was 'The Senor from Senora".

  11. Timothy Folk - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:19 AM

I wish my MLB The Show '13 game would say Rendon's name when I play it… just calls him #6… (random)

  12. Timothy Folk - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:20 AM

Rendon with the Dr. Dre/Snoop walk up music is the best on the team imo

  13. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:20 AM

On Arulio…aside from Eddie Yost, Harmon Killebrew and Ken McMullen, he was my favorite Washington 3rd baseman before Zim.

  14. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:22 AM

Was that something Shelby Whitfield gave him?

  15. Timothy Folk - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:22 AM

Visual proof of Eckstein doing his job everyone!!

  16. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:23 AM

I wouldn't be able to watch the 9th if Drew went back out there…Put in Sori… That's what we signed him for…. I still want another run for insurance…I called a 3-1 game and I want a 3-1 game….

  17. Timothy Folk - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:26 AM

Ryan Zim is like seriously just cool as hell

  18. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:26 AM

My favorite walk up was back in 2006 when Zim did Big Baby da Prince and "This is the Way I Live".

  19. phil dunton - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:27 AM

    Don't forget Vinnie Castilla!

  20. David Proctor - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:27 AM

I'm very nervous about Soriano in the 9th. I don't know why, just a bad feeling. I'd really like to add a run.

  21. Sunshine_Bobby_Carpenter_Is_Too_Pessimistic_For_Me - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:27 AM

I'm with Mrs. B. There's not enough bourbon and Maalox for a two-inning Drew save right now.I still have not recovered from Game 5, I fully admit it.

  22. paul brandt - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:29 AM

tim folk @ 915pm, i don't have stats to prove it but this area & this site has some real baseball people who know what they are talking about…i played ball in high school, american legion & college but i have to say i learn a few things each day/week just reading this site so don't under-estimate the ghosts, natjacks, natslady, DP, natssomething, sec 222, sofa, mick (when he's not angry), eric (steal your face, not eat your face, some may not get this), etc…awesome site & knowledge.

  23. David Proctor - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:29 AM

Hard hit ball for ALR. Bad luck.Let's go Soriano. Ready to untuck.

  24. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:30 AM

I'm not nervous about this game… I know we are gonna win it…Dang… That had single written all over it…Sori is gonna make it interesting at 2 outs but we win…Book it!

  25. Timothy Folk - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:30 AM

  30. jdcmsh - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:34 AM

Wow! my first post. What a tremendous game. Come on Soriano! (too many exclamation points?)

  31. phil dunton - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:36 AM

Soriano never does a 1,2,3 out save.

  32. Timothy Folk - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:37 AM

What are your thoughts on Soriano's work load? I remember Davey saying in spring training that Storen/Clippard would get some work is it because we're so far back #29 gotta go almost everynight? I feel if we have any chance in october he's gonna need to be fresh

  33. Sunshine_Bobby_Carpenter_Is_Too_Pessimistic_For_Me - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:37 AM

C'mon Sori, feed him the DP pill.

  34. paul brandt - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:38 AM

    Okay…. Come on Anthony…..

  37. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:38 AM

Danny Espinosa struck out swinging in his 4th at bat. Drops his average to .103.And Tyler Moore goes 0-4 dropping him to .200.

  43. David Proctor - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:41 AM

My god Soriano. You get the job done but you never make it easy.3 in a row.

  44. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:41 AM

Yesssssss…… Nice…. Dangit, what's going on with our pitchers not covering!!!!Nice game folks!

  45. RickH - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:41 AM

Three in a row! I'll take it!!!

  46. NatsJack in Florida - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:44 AM

That was the 4th pop up I've seen Rendon drop including AAA. Not good.

  47. David Proctor - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:47 AM

Yeah, but that's not an easy play. It's a play he should make, but not an easy one. Those will come with experience.

  48. MrsB loves the Nats - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:48 AM

3 game winning streak….. Will Haren help us get to 4…*sigh*.

  49. natsfan1a - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:50 AM

Last out, shirts out. Yup, I untucked.(And who stole my Mr. Kool-Aid for the race? Maaan…)

  50. karlkolchak - Jun 22, 2013 at 1:53 AM

NatsJack in Florida – at this point I don't see Espy or Moore being called back anytime soon, unless it is Moore as a September call up. A trade for a veteran bench player seems more likely.Nice win, tonight. I'm not ready jump on the "they have turned a corner" bandwagon until they start whooping up on some teams stronger than the Tulo-less Rockies. Maybe if Harper really IS ready to return close to full health…

  51. SonnyG10 - Jun 22, 2013 at 3:22 AM

Nice win. Didn't stomp on their necks, but I'll take it.
