McCatty on Haren’s struggles

A day after Dan Haren got shelled once again in a 7-1 loss to the Rockies, Nationals pitching coach Steve McCatty explained how it is likely a mechanical issue for the veteran pitcher that has contributed to his struggles this season.
McCatty thinks past injuries to Haren’s hip and back may have altered his motion, specifically with his arm slot and release. Haren may still be compensating for where he used to feel pain and is coming too far around on his release instead of following through with a forward motion.
McCatty said they have not ruled out an injury, but more will be known on Monday after Haren throws a bullpen session.

“In the past, I know last year he had a little problem with his hip and back. When you have a problem somewhere else, sometimes it transfers to other parts of your body,” McCatty said.

It took him 4 awful starts in a row to figure this out?

Kinda feel for Haren. I've bashed him as well as others. But the guy is a pro and has had a good career. like I tell my son, that mound can be a very lonely place when the going gets tough

Hurt his neck turning to see all the balls flying out.Don't believe it unless he has been injured all season, still I hope he is hurt so he can come back and make a difference

They are setting this up for Haren to DL when Harper returns. (Hopefully next week).

I wondered how long it was going to take to diagnose Haren's case of acute suckitus…unfortunately it was a long longer than it did for Wang last year. We better hope that "Old School" Ohlendorf really has figured something out that wasn't there before and that his initial Nats start wasn't just a fluke.

You play minor leaguers you lose games at this level

But aren't the guys you play on this level by definition, "major leaguers"? It seems to me that you lose games at this level by playing crummy players. I hardly would call Rendon a minor leaguer.
