Game 79: Nats at Mets

Jun 28, 2013, 7:45 PM EDT

Mark Zuckerman / NATS INSIDER

NEW YORK — Good afternoon from Citi Field, where tonight the Nationals open a weekend series against the Mets, beginning with an awfully tough matchup against the dynamic Matt Harvey.

The Nats have already gotten a good look at Harvey this season; he beat Stephen Strasburg with an electric performance here back in April. So they know they've got their work cut out for them tonight. They can only hope Ross Detwiler is up to the challenge himself after some recent shaky outings.

Still waiting on the Nationals' lineup, which I don't believe will include Bryce Harper. Though I suppose you never know…

Updates to come…

    "He's ridiculous…seriously. I forgot he could get up to 97."Up to 97? He's thrown 100+ this year.

  2. Eric - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:25 AM

Make this man a starter. Seriously.

  3. Eric - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:26 AM

    Or not…heh.

  4. David Proctor - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:26 AM

Eric, Ohlendorf has started before. He had a 7.77 ERA last year. It's great that Ohlendorf is doing well, but it's just a matter of time.

  5. David Proctor - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:27 AM

Cueto leaves the Reds game with a strained lat. AGAIN.

  6. NatsLady - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:35 AM

That is a nice looking pizza. Casper Wells entered the game in the ninth as the White Sox's fifth pitcher, with the outfielder becoming the first position player to take the mound for the South Siders since Dewayne Wise threw a scoreless inning against Minnesota last Sept. 12. Wells used a 91-mph fastball to retire Mike Aviles on one pitch, struck out Cabrera and got Jason Kipnis to fly out as part of his scoreless frame.

  7. Joe Seamhead - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:35 AM

Well, Espinosa only struck out once tonight while going 0-3. Now batting .100 Very sad.Meanwhile, Daniel Rosenbombed got bombed.

  8. NatsLady - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:36 AM

See, Desi==> Bernadina is not hopeless!

  9. David Proctor - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:37 AM

Harvey is out of the game. That's a significant detail.

  10. NatsLady - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:38 AM

DP–there is that. I would not mind taking this game away from Harvey at all.

  11. Eric - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:39 AM

@Joe Seamhead – There was a good reason they called up Karns and Jordan over Rosenbaum–even before tonight his peripheral numbers were just screaming fresh meat for the sharks.

  14. Section 135 - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:43 AM

Zuk is an awful hitter these days

  15. Secret wasian man - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:43 AM

Chad Tracy is worse than Matt Stairs

  16. baseballswami - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:46 AM

At least we are struggling with a pitcher tonight who is actually good, as opposed to the pitchers we have trouble with who usually stink. Seriously – I was worried about that whole perfect game thing, thanks Desi. Tonight it's the hitters who usually stink who are giving us trouble! Keep on learning those lessons, guys, you will need them down the road.

  17. NatsLady - Jun 29, 2013 at 1:46 AM

Why doesn't Collins bring Parnell in?

  65. Eric - Jun 29, 2013 at 2:22 AM

"David Protor, Jayson ran slow so as not to choke on the mouthful of face."Or get a cramp. Mama always told me not to exercise for thirty minutes after a meal of raw face.

  66. David Proctor - Jun 29, 2013 at 2:23 AM

Alright Drew. You need to get the leadoff man out with David Wright due up second.

  71. Joe Seamhead - Jun 29, 2013 at 2:26 AM

For all the Werth naysayers? That hit, and stretch to a double, was key.

  72. NatsLady - Jun 29, 2013 at 2:26 AM

If Storen gets in ANY trouble and there is a lefty up, put Krol in. DO NOT LOSE THIS BALLGAME.
