Game 122: Nats at Braves

Aug 17, 2013, 3:28 PM EDT

Mark Zuckerman / NATS INSIDER

ATLANTA โ€” It's another cold, rainy day here at Turner Field, and this time it could prevent baseball from being played. At the very least, it's supposed to drizzle all evening. At worst, it could be heavy enough to cause a delay or even postponement. We'll see.

If they do get started, all eyes will be on Stephen Strasburg as he takes the mound in the wake of Bryce Harper's three plunkings by Braves pitchers over the last 11 days. Will Strasburg retaliate, and if so, who gets to wear one of his fastballs? The safest bet would probably be Justin Upton, batting second tonight for Atlanta. But much could depend on how the umpires handle this, whether they issue warnings to both dugouts before the game even begins, which would lead to automatic ejections and future suspensions.

In other news, the Nationals just announced they've placed Taylor Jordan on the 15-day DL with a lower back strain and recalled Tyler Moore from Class AAA. Reading between the lines, this would suggest the Nats have decided to shut down Jordan after 142 innings. Ross Ohlendorf will be ready to return in four days and take his rotation spot. Until then, they'll have an extra position player in Moore, who had been raking at Syracuse. (Over his last 28 games, he was hitting .371 with seven homers and 31 RBI.)

Stay tuned for updates…

Question: Doesn't the pitcher's back foot have to be on the rubber when he delivers the pitch?

  2. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:24 PM

Just because Dru gets out of it 1-2-3. The ump gave him a gift on 3-0 and on Heyward on a 2-2 pitch.

  3. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:24 PM

    Ryan Zimmerman!

  4. Section 222 - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:24 PM

BigCat, I thought the plunking and the wild pitches were supposed to intimidate the Braves into not throwing at our guys any more. You mean that didn't work? We're going to get hit again? Huh? What was the point then? And if they do throw at us again, I assume you want more retaliation even though it didn't work the first time. Because that's just the way it is in this sport. The code must be observed even though it doesn't deter more plunking. Our players must be protected even though hitting their guys does nothing to protect ours. Ok then. Now I get it.Way to go Zim!

  5. Candide - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:24 PM

    Zoppo Boppo!

Bigcat, steal from LAA for hanson who is struggling I believe.

    The Mark of ZZZZZZimmerman

  12. NatsLady - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:26 PM

Drew got lucky. Needs to remember that.

  13. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:27 PM

That was ball four that Werth swung at, but he got ball five so it doesn't matter.

  14. NatsLady - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:27 PM

Yeah, ATL traded a starter for a reliever. It was considered very strange, but certainly has worked out.

  15. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:28 PM

    Heyward robs Desi.

  16. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:28 PM

    Nice catch by Heyward.

  17. Section 222 - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:29 PM

By the way, anyone know if Stras automatically gets suspended for getting ejected after a warning. Or can MLB look at the evidence and decide the wild pitches were not intentional and leave it at that?

  18. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:30 PM

Was received in tge trade for 5omny hudson this winter with the Angels

  19. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:33 PM

  21. BigCat - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:34 PM

Nope …. Braves didn't throw at us. I guess we showed them 222 didn't we? No …. not yet. It's over when Tehran , I

  22. The Real Feel Wood. Accept no substitutes. - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:36 PM

Roark is now set up and stretched out to take the start Strasburg will miss due to his suspension.

  23. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:37 PM

    I sai hudson meant hanson.

  24. BigCat - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:38 PM

Go with clip in last inning………please. No more soriano

  25. paul brandt - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:41 PM

    oh no Soriano!!

  26. BigCat - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:42 PM

    Gosh. Roger.

  27. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:45 PM

Hairston. What a joke. You K'd and now you leave the team short. Real smart you idiot.

  28. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:45 PM

Hairston is not just lousy, he's just wrong.

  29. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:48 PM

If the choice was Tracy to play LF I would go with Jordan Zimmermann as I have seen him shagging balls in BP.

  30. paul brandt - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:49 PM

Hairston, you cannot get tossed there & you did…and you are a veteran…inexcusable, anything else I say will be removed by a blog administrator…so selfish!!!

  31. Section 222 - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:50 PM

Funny to hear FP say you don't get thrown out of a game when you're ahead. Yet many here think Stras threw those wild pitches intentionally. He's just a little more valuable than Scotty Hairston.

  32. Steady Eddie - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:56 PM

Why Hairston was still in the gme at that point is another discredit to Knorr (along with taking Roark out an inning or two too soon). Knorr should have hit ALR for Hairston in the third when Varvaro came in for Minor, and moved TMo to LF.

  33. Faraz Shaikh - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:56 PM

    indeeds?

  34. BigCat - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:56 PM

    Inexcusable to walk a guy.

  35. David Proctor - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:59 PM

    Unreal.

  36. NatsLady - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:59 PM

I can't believe Soriano did it AGAIN!

  37. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 10:59 PM

There is your man, Section 222, best reliever in the NL

  38. UnkyD - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:00 PM

    Soriano………smh…

  39. Dan Strong - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:00 PM

    Soriano sucks.

  40. JaneB - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:00 PM

We can't play Soriano anymore. If rather have Henry back. Why isn't Clip closing? Or Drew? This guys is done.

  41. Faraz Shaikh - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:01 PM

    WOW!

  42. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:01 PM

un f'in real….Another important reason why we didn't do it this year. How long will it take before they stop using Soriano as closer. And if they don't stop that freakin mindless chop…

  43. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:01 PM

    I love baseball.

  44. Section 222 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:01 PM

Wow. That's just ridiculous. WODL, why do you care? You'd just as soon throw the game anyway to make a point. I actually want us to win.

  45. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:01 PM

Sorry Oh No is one badass dude. Look how he spits when he walks off the field. Damn, he is so cool….

  46. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:02 PM

Way to go Soriano. Walk the tying run on base.

  47. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:02 PM

Is Soriano a complete idiot? Each of these homers have a walk right before then. The walks are just as bad as tge homers.Next batters he gets with no problem.Seems like he just choking

  48. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:02 PM

Up to 6 blown saves on your list, dude. You are the one who sang his praises. Admit you were full of hot air…

  49. Depot Master - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:03 PM

Sounds like FP is politicking for someone else as closer. Bottom line, you can't walk people, and now Bryce will have to hit if the game even gets that far. Soriano may have to come out and pitch the 10th, too!

  50. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:03 PM

I love the little hand pull… oh well. sorry will get them next time.

  51. Section 222 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:03 PM

Stammen and Krol left in the BP. Bleak.

  52. Drew - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:03 PM

The Senators nearly killed my dad.Now the Nats are coming for me.

  53. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:03 PM

Did it again…Did it at least 3 times….remember when we're up 7-4 and they tied it.Wish Gosselin would have took 2nd on DI so we could have walked Heyward….fudge.

  54. SonnyG10 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:04 PM

I can't watch anymore. Need to DFA Soriano.

  55. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:04 PM

You didn't bother to do any research. You just proclaimed him good.Soriano has not been good and no one who has any clue about baseball thinks he has been good.So why say it?

  56. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:04 PM

    Kimbrel= 1.12 ERA . Not looking good.

  57. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:05 PM

Strasburg is the hero of the game.Soriano is once again the goat.

  58. NatsLady - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:06 PM

Bryce keeps looking at his arm. Not good.

  59. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:06 PM

Lets see if the Nats have what it takes to get this game back.

  60. Unknown - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:07 PM

Can we all agree that the main 2013 signings and resigns have been busts? LaRoche, Sori, Haren.

  61. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:07 PM

Soriano is not even trying out there.

  62. Amr Khani - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:07 PM

Soriano has not been good in years. But the Nats got bamboozled by the idiotic "save" statistic he accumulated over the past couple years. He's a below average reliever, nothing more, nothing less.

  63. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:08 PM

There are many idiots on here who think saves matter…No me, of course. I have half a brain, at least.

  64. BigCat - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:08 PM

After riz dumped on storen after game 5 , it's time he sat him down. Regardless of the money

  65. Rodney Weaver - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:09 PM

Stupid Soprano! I quit. I'm going to bed

  66. The Real Feel Wood. Accept no substitutes. - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:09 PM

    Soriano comes untucked again.

  67. NatsLady - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:09 PM

Didn't we just see this movie last night?

  68. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:09 PM

This is the most hilarious loss of the season, at least. It would be hard to write them like this. The damn ass Nats bring in Soriano again, against his Hometown team and he blows it again.Wow. I wonder who Rafael bet on.

  69. Depot Master - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:09 PM

I honestly don't have a problem with the homer – after all, Tyler gave one up too. The walk, on the other hand…

  70. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:10 PM

Where is David Proctor to tell us what a great job Rizzo did signing Soriano? D.P. you are going to get docked your pay if you don't type something soon in favor of Rizzo's off-season signings….

  71. Michael Harvey - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Great tweet from Dan Steinberg @dcsportsbog: "So now the Braves get to hit Harper in extras."

  72. Section 222 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:12 PM

You're a long winded pompous jerk WODL, and you revel in the Nats' failures. I have no interest in debating this or any other topic with you. Feel free to ignore my posts as I will ignore yours. Ok, so McCann and Heyward apparently aren't intimidated by the plunkings. Anyone else?

  73. Depot Master - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:12 PM

Krol better throw nothing but fast balls.

  74. BigCat - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:13 PM

Krol reminds me of randy Myers Bring it baby!

  75. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:13 PM

"Michael Harvey said… Great tweet from Dan Steinberg @dcsportsbog: "So now the Braves get to hit Harper in extras."Nats need baserunners…….

  76. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:13 PM

its just laughable anymore. What a piece of garbage Soriano is. Letter high fastball. Who does he think he is Kimbel?

  77. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:14 PM

No one deigned to defend Soriano the other night, Section 222, only you and you did it devoid of any statistics or anything. Perhaps you are a closet Braves fan or one of those Nats fans who secretely wants them to lose while pretending otherwise. You sure have made no pretense of attacking Strasburg tonight. I don't know, but you should leave the player evaluation to people who have played, understand and have watched baseball.

  78. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:15 PM

Soriano will always have Section 222's love and admiration.

  79. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:15 PM

    please end this here

  80. Rodney Weaver - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:16 PM

Stupid Soprano! I quit. I'm going to bed

  81. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:16 PM

You didnt see Shafter get himself thrown out of the game for arguing that K. Hairston should just be DFA'D. Horrible signing. Rizzo just keeps bettering himself.

  82. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:17 PM

But Soriano has been good this year…. Only 5 blown saves….

  83. Faraz Shaikh - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:17 PM

Mark, I know that this person may not be breaking any of rules but his attitude is ticking off many of us. I hope you can put this guy in his place.

  84. Depot Master - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:18 PM

Who would have thought that this game might come down to Bryce Harper vs. Avilan?

  85. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:18 PM

Rizzo= Worst off-season ever.Lerners are usually pretty wise, so maybe it is just random, but let's face it. If Rizzo tried to destroy the team, he couldn't have done any better than he did in the off-season….

  86. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:20 PM

They get out Bryce Harper and cheer it like its the last out of Game 7 of the World Series.

  87. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:20 PM

Soriano is a bum. This team fought its tails off tonight. He comes in thinking hes something special. he stinks and has killed this teams momentum. dump his butt now.

  88. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:20 PM

I thnk Haren's second half has been fine. First half terrible.

  89. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:21 PM

Soriano can't even be bothered to pitch the 10th. He is too precious. He might hurt his arm and then the Nats would be in big trouble.

  90. Michael Harvey - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:22 PM

So between innings I'm reading about the Civil War. Puts things in perspective. Almost. Can't wait to get to Sherman.

  91. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:22 PM

the true Nats are doing everything they can. This Mercenary that Rizzo brings in just craps all over it. What a cancer he is. please just lose already.

  92. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:23 PM

Why didn't Soriano yank his shirt out tongith? How does that work? Do you only do it to humiliate the other team? Soriano would have a fit if a guy didn't run out a homer and yet, he feels fine just rubbing his meager skills in, wheveever, perchace, they actually work.

  93. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:24 PM

"Secret wasian man said… Soriano is a bum. This team fought its tails off tonight. He comes in thinking hes something special. he stinks and has killed this teams momentum. dump his butt now."He doesnt have the guts. Made him the highest paid reliever in baseball and this is what you get. Unacceptable. That walk to Laird with a 2 run lead making him the tying run on base was the big mistake.

  94. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:24 PM

$14,000,000 a year and Soriano walks off the field happy as a lark, spitting as he goes, shirt, of course, tucked in, for fashion sense.

  95. Depot Master - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:25 PM

By the way, Mark – an Atlanta sports publication is using your video feed to suggest "putting one on Harper's ear". Thought you might want to know.http://www.sportsmedia101.com/atlantabraves/2013/08/07/washington-nationals-bryce-harper-stays-classless-in-comments-about-atlanta-braves-julio-teheran/

  96. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:25 PM

Lay one out there Krol. Its Daveys bed time. OH WAIT

  97. Depot Master - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:27 PM

Nothing but more fastballs, Ian. Simmons is the only guy that might get to one.

  98. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:27 PM

RISP update Nats 3-13 Braves 0-4Krol obviously doesnt remember what happen.Relievers must not walk people.

  99. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:28 PM

So this guy making league minimum is going to take his 2nd loss in as many nights. while the 15 million dollar closer once again sits on his butt not doing his job.

  100. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:28 PM

Haren has shown heart. Soriano appears to have no heart.

  101. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:29 PM

You needed that pitch up Krol. 0-2 pitch to a guy who never bats. Come on.

  102. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:30 PM

Good for McCatty to come out and talk to Krol. That bunt was a killer blow.

  103. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:31 PM

I am just beyond mad right now. HEY here comes Sorianos best friend.

  104. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:32 PM

    Nice comeback Krol.

  105. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:32 PM

    Sheew…

  106. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:32 PM

GET OFF OF KROL. Hes twice the man Soriano is.

  107. Section 222 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:33 PM

Nicely done Krol. I hope they never learn not to dive at 1B.

  108. The Real Feel Wood. Accept no substitutes. - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:33 PM

This game has everything, almost. You know what it needs now? Rain delay.

  109. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:33 PM

I didn't know that anybody was on Krol.

  110. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:35 PM

Bernie stinks too. whats the point anymore?

  111. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:35 PM

I've seen enuf of Sori to feel sorry for the fans.Packin up storen, curse of the beast, bad karma. What comes around, comes around.Rizzo would be an excellent director of scouting. So who do the braves have left in the pen after Avilan.

  112. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:35 PM

Bernadina should have taken the HBP as they would have to throw there last pitcher out.

  113. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:35 PM

Haren took responibilty, Siriano blamed home plate umpire.

  114. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:36 PM

Nats 128 is complaining on krol.

  115. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:37 PM

We can't score any runs. Chad Tracy? Who signed him?

  116. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:37 PM

I hope Laroche got some help from Chipper. he needs it.

  117. Depot Master - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:37 PM

So I'm noticing a couple of things. 1) There were 3 ejections tonight – all Nationals.2) Avilan has pinpoint control tonight.

  118. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:38 PM

    jeez what a bullpen

  119. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:38 PM

Laroche didnt. Why did he replace Tyler Moore?

  120. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:38 PM

players not here next season. SORRY OH NO. Shark. ALR. Tracy. Hairston,

  121. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:39 PM

This will be it. I sure hope that Soriano is available for tomorrow's game. Our bullpen is so depleted….

  122. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:40 PM

Span = bench or highway. He is welcome to take Shark's spot. If he starts next year, I will be doing a lot of fishing.

  123. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:40 PM

ALR is in for defense. because the game should have ended in the 9th.

  124. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:42 PM

awright Fredi, with a 15 1/2 game lead blowing up his pitching staff to win tonight. Moronic

  125. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Earlier in the year Soriano's pitches had a lot of movement. The past several appearances they have been flatlined. Come on Craig.

  126. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Interesting all Avilan pitched to in the 12th was lefties. Werth and Moore repkaced. Knorr's moves to early.

  127. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:43 PM

WODL HAHAHAHAHA im with you man. I was at game Thursday when he blew that. im only staying up to here Ray. I hope he kills SORRY

  128. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:44 PM

"Secret wasian man said… players not here next season. SORRY OH NO. Shark. ALR. Tracy. Hairston,"The only one gone for sure is Tracy. Soriano and Laroche and Hairston are all under contract for next year. Rizzo isnt cutting them and it will hard to trade any of them for a decent return.

  129. Joe Seamhead - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:45 PM

    Nice tag, ALR!

  130. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:45 PM

    Very nicely done by ALR.

  131. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:45 PM

MNF Knorrs moves not to early. This is 100 percent on Soriano. nobody else.

  132. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:45 PM

They can get something for ALR…not much for Tracy or Sori

  133. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:46 PM

Jim Gentile would approve of ALR's play.

  134. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:46 PM

    Span with a hr here.

  135. NatsLady - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:47 PM

Secret–agree. But Abad and Clip contributed.

  136. Secret wasian man - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:48 PM

128 with those guys next season expect another bad one.

  137. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:48 PM

What if we had just kept everybody from last year and done nothing? (And don't tell me that so and so got hurt–Soriano sucked–that's another reality)

  138. jw - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:48 PM

@Real Wood — this game started late because of a rain delay. I've discovered that if you click on a user's name, it brings up their profile, and turns their name red in the heading for comments. Very helpful for scrolling.

  139. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:49 PM

I'd take Diamond Jim's bat too.

  140. Dan Strong - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Hey guys… Check it out.. Span grounder to the right side. Didn't see that one coming.

  141. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Once Span gets his obp back up to his career standard of .342, just watch out for the Nats!

  142. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:51 PM

Fredi….messing up his rotation to win a meaningless game….it will come back to bite him.

  143. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:51 PM

Secret, Im with you. They are all weak. Rizzo with multiple bad moves and he makes it worse when he keeps them around. Henry Rodriguez was going on a 3 year mistake. Sign of a poor GM when he multiplies his mistakes by not being able to evaluate the talent on his roster.

  144. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:51 PM

The Nats should come out and hit four guys in a row and just go home. Make it a boring walk-off.

  145. Nats 128 - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:53 PM

Time for a Bryce Harper blast.

  146. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:53 PM

    Idiotic defensive replacements by Knorr.

  147. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:53 PM

cmon bryce….visiting team walkoff like in 42

  148. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:57 PM

When is Schu get in Harper's face and tell hin to quit swinging at off speed for a while. Most are not strikes anyway.By the way Soriano not the only goat, Abad didnt do anything either.

  149. karlkolchak - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:57 PM

William O – "What if we had just kept everybody from last year and done nothing?"Oh, I dunno, Morse DID get hurt–repeatedly, just like as he always does. Burnett has pitched 9 innings because HE has been hurt most of the year. LaRoche would still be here stinking up he joint since he counts as a guy who was on the team last year. Oh, then there is Jackson, who has a higher ERA than Haren right now. Sounds to me like with the breakdown in leadership and subpar-to-disastrous years from Zimmerman, Espinosa and Storen this year that Nats would likely have sucked just as hard as they do now.Gee, can you tell that even I, who have been quite critical myself, am tired of reading the same old crap over and over again?

  150. mick - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:57 PM

I have tried to keep calm….. Soriano is GARBAGE, …if Nats lose, its 100% on him…

  151. jeffwx - Aug 17, 2013 at 11:58 PM

But you're paying 13 million for this BS

  152. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:00 AM

"karlkolchak said… Sounds to me like with the breakdown in leadership and subpar-to-disastrous years from Zimmerman, Espinosa and Storen this year that Nats would likely have sucked just as hard as they do now."You forgot Laroche.

  153. Joe Seamhead - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:00 AM

Of all the guys to walk.

  154. BigCat - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:00 AM

Did you see zim's hard turn at 1b on his single. Good god, I thought he was gonna collapse. Then did you see his flat footed 3 foot lead off first. There is a reason we are losing and it all starts at the top. Christ sakes. Zim looks 45 years old. He made no effort on that grounder last inning. And yes, I know he was shading the line

  155. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:02 AM

Stammen up 1 and 2 then walk guy. Come on that is not a good thing.

  156. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:03 AM

I said no arguing injuries. The Nats would have used them right.

  157. mick - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:04 AM

Mark and Ted Lerner…..you have a THIEF in yourmist…his name is Soriano…stealing his paycheck. I put Soriano on Albert Haynesworth depthMike Rizzo you really stunk it up this season…I hope you get it together next year

  158. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:07 AM

Gilbert Arenas, too. See, in DC, we have a history of just giving money away….

  159. Joe Seamhead - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:07 AM

karlkolchak said…William O – Gee, can you tell that even I, who have been quite critical myself, am tired of reading the same old crap over and over again?August 17, 2013 11:57 PM—-////-//–/////——-I think that you speak for most of the board, karlkolchak.

  160. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:09 AM

Stammen makes that way to hard. 1 hit since the 8th.

  161. mick - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:09 AM

WODI'm afraid Nats are another typical half ass DC sports team

  162. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:09 AM

You guys are a bunch of pansies. I rarely, if ever hear anything critical on here. All I hear is I love Mike Rizzo. He took us to the NLDS. I love Soriano. He was a Yankee. I love Ryan Zimmerman, He is the greatest Nat ever.

  163. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:10 AM

mick, someone else brought it up that Rizzo had $65 million to spend and he got Haren, Soriano, Laroche, Suzuki and Span and wasted another $1 million on Tracy.

  164. mick - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:11 AM

WODbecause many in here miss the 100 loss seasonsI really believe that now

  165. Nats106 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:11 AM

Missed the game due to a honey bourbon tasting party. Wht did I misss?

  166. mick - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:12 AM

great effort Desi…typical over rated player, overhyped

  167. Joe Seamhead - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:12 AM

You know what happens when you give a lawyer a Viagra?

  168. mick - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:14 AM

I bet this team will lose 90% of the remaining series this season….. Werth the only winner on this team of soft players who accept losing

  169. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:14 AM

I lost my picture of the game and got a Luna commercial. Angelos must have needed some more TV revenue to pay for Carpenters Kit Kat bar.

  170. BigCat - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:15 AM

Hey hey…. Easy on Tracy. He got a hit last night.

  171. mick - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:15 AM

Nats128…. just watching Tracy makes me sick

  172. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:16 AM

    mick, eat a Snickers bar.

  173. David Proctor - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:18 AM

    Well that was interesting…

  174. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:18 AM

Was Bernadina really out at 2nd?

  175. Joe Seamhead - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:20 AM

    Yes, he was out, 128

  176. mick - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:20 AM

what a crap ass team Nats have become.I now question the core, character and future of this soft franchise. too many losers on this teamI'm done…guarantee Braves win this now.later

  177. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:25 AM

    Nice pitch Stayman.

  178. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:27 AM

I would bet my mortgage that tge Nats would nit lose 90% of their remaining games. They would have to go 4-36. Even the 1962 Mets could do that.

  179. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:29 AM

    5 K's of Justin Upton.

  180. Joe Seamhead - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:29 AM

Over five hours into this now.

  181. NatsLady - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:29 AM

mick are you kidding? Look at Craig Stammen! I don't know where he found it. Probably be useless for a month after this, just like when he gave four innings–wait, wasn't that in Atlanta? Wasn't that another Stras meltdown? My memory is as foggy as Turner Field.

  182. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:30 AM

We may see Bryce Harper pitch tonight.

  183. Joe Seamhead - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:32 AM

I think Stamman just said that he was still good when he came off the field.

  184. Faraz Shaikh - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:32 AM

SS meltdown? fans wanted him to hit a player. once done, no margin of error. all of this started because our best pitcher could not go more than two innings.

  185. NatsLady - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:33 AM

    LaRoche!!!!!!!

  186. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:33 AM

Look at that! Thanks Chipper Jones! Thanks Adam Laroche.

  187. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:33 AM

Finally someone challenges Chris Johnson at 3rd.

  188. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:33 AM

This is a save situation. Luckily, Soriiano is busy.

  189. The Real Feel Wood. Accept no substitutes. - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:34 AM

Stammen was clean shaven when this game started.

  190. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:34 AM

Id bring in Jordan Zimmermann for a 1 inning like he did in Game 4.

  191. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:36 AM

Come on Span. That just cant happen.

  192. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:36 AM

    I was just praising Span….

  193. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:36 AM

Will Haren come in for the save. Why is Span taking a lead?

  194. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:37 AM

His poor baserunning at 3rd base in the 1st inning cost the Nats a run and now his pickoff. Span just is poor as a baserunner.

  195. Joe Seamhead - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:37 AM

Way to go Adam!Agreed Faraz. Then Abad and Clippard let us down, then Soriano.I don't know how many times the Braves have come back in the 9th inning to win games this year, but it's a bunch. Face it, they're a very good team. I would not have thought that they were all that back in July.

  196. D'Gourds - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:39 AM

Thoughts about the game:-Stras looked like he got the yips before he was thrown out of the game. Very scary for the future of the Nats. We should pay very close attention to his control his next start.-Roark is really impressive. He'll be valuable next year.-I bet Soriano is hurt. Everything is up in the zone for the past three games. Msybe his legs?-Stammen is a bulldog. Love him. -Hairston was dead wrong mouthing off to the ump. It was a strike. He's a veteran–he should know better.-The Nats should throw at Teheran tomprrow (today). Make a statement.-Span is just a terrible baserunner. -That was LaRoche's best at bat this year.

  197. William O. Douglas Loeffler - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:39 AM

    Save situation. Bring in Soriano.

  198. Drew - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:40 AM

    Let's play one.

  199. Nats 128 - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:40 AM

WODL, Denard Span is just helping your criticisms. If he doesnt get picked Simmons is playing closer to 2nd base and Rendons smash is a single to LF.

  200. Manassas Nats' Fan - Aug 18, 2013 at 12:41 AM

How long you think Davey has been asleep?I say since 1030?
