Strasburg: 'I think our lineup's better'

The Washington Nationals have released a list of players they expect to attend Jan. 25’s NatsFest at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. The appearances are subject to change, but for now it appears Stephen Strasburg will be there after missing the event in 2013. Bryce Harper will be in attendance as well, along with newcomers Jerry Blevins, Doug Fister and manager Matt Williams.

Notably missing from the list are Ryan Zimmerman, Wilson Ramos, Jordan Zimmermann, Rafael Soriano and Ian Desmond. Usually when players miss NatsFest they have prior commitments, so that could be the case.

Here is the full list:

Jerry Blevins

Tyler Clippard

Ross Detwiler

Danny Espinosa

Doug Fister

Gio Gonzalez

Scott Hairston

Bryce Harper

Ryan Mattheus

Tyler Moore

Ross Ohlendorf

Anthony Rendon

Tanner Roark

Denard Span

Craig Stammen

Drew Storen

Stephen Strasburg

Jayson Werth

Matt Williams

For the second year in a row Adam LaRoche is a no show. Just sayin’.

    • Jw - Jan 9, 2014 at 12:25 PM

LaRoche will be there. He’ll just be hidden in a duck blind.

  2. tcostant - Jan 9, 2014 at 11:28 AM

If Stephen Strasburg shows up for NatsFest, I will eat my hat.

  3. Joe Seamhead - Jan 9, 2014 at 11:32 AM

Strasburg was there 2 years ago, and also three years ago. He was quite accommodating with regards to posing for pictures. Last year he had a race, or a gold tournament, that had already been scheduled.

  4. Joe Seamhead - Jan 9, 2014 at 11:39 AM

Ramos and Soriano get a pass because they are in their home countries and coming up here for the occasion would be an expensive hassle, and I’m not sure, but maybe involve some visa issues?

    • Jw - Jan 9, 2014 at 12:29 PM

Zimmerman probably won’t be there because he has an outside contract that requires him to charge for autographs. He has been at NatsFests in the past and people just get mad that he won’t sign. Probably better for him just to skip it.

      • JayB - Jan 9, 2014 at 12:44 PM

Why would Jordon sign that kind of a contract….Bad sign for keeping him here….clearly he has advice to go for the most money at all times no matter what……get an expemption for team events and leave some cash on the table….How much in a ZimmN autograph worth…..50 cents…a buck?

      • Jw - Jan 9, 2014 at 12:54 PM

        Ryan Zimmerman, doofus.

      • nats128 - Jan 9, 2014 at 12:56 PM

Jw I’m not buying that. That’s just an excuse. So long as the players aren’t getting paid they don’t violate any deal. Strasburg has a multi million dollar autograph deal with some company and he going.

  5. JayB - Jan 9, 2014 at 12:42 PM

    Who invited Danny?

Is that really going to get fan base excited?

    • Jw - Jan 9, 2014 at 12:54 PM

      You seem excited.

    • alexva6 - Jan 9, 2014 at 1:27 PM

yeah, I doubt he packs them in like Ross Ohlendorf

I really see him bouncing back now that Davey is gone. something about their relationship was disturbing but I can put my finger on it.

We might be looking with a renioun with one Jamey Carrol

  7. Faraz Shaikh - Jan 9, 2014 at 1:20 PM

    questionable move.

    • Jw - Jan 9, 2014 at 1:23 PM

Why? Carroll’s not a starter any more, obviously, but he’s still getting it done.

      • Faraz Shaikh - Jan 9, 2014 at 1:31 PM

        .211/.267/.251

that’s not good even for a backup player.

    • trochlis318 - Jan 9, 2014 at 1:29 PM

maybe he is the utility infielder we needed and espi can go to the minors and work out things in a less pressure situation

      • TimDz - Jan 9, 2014 at 1:32 PM

Its a minor league deal….nothing wrong with taking a flier on the man….

  8. natsfan1a - Jan 9, 2014 at 2:23 PM

awww, I always liked Jamey. Welcome back. :-)
