VIDEO: Do Nats have MLB’s best rotation?

Last night’s Geico SportsNet Central featured another segment with Mark looking ahead to Nationals’ spring training. In this clip he takes a look at whether the Nats have the best rotation in baseball.

After trading for Doug Fister, the Nationals boosted what was already a strength. On paper they look better than last year as Fister figures to be an upgrade over Dan Haren. But is that enough to make them the best rotation in the game?

Check the video out right here:

I think it’s just a bit premature to judge the rotation — it’s not set yet. HaHa. I’ll decide when i see one time though in the regular season. Of course, then I’m likely to decide that yes it’s the best. Seriously, on paper I think that Det is clearly the guy for the fifth spot, for sure. He’s a proven starter. I guess the Roark supporters have a case too, though.

Jim Bowden said today that the Nats have been in contact with Burnett’s agent. Right now, they think he’s asking for too much money, but they’re still interested and if the money comes down some, they’d like to be able to swoop in and grab him. It’s Bowden so as always take it with a grain of salt.

My guess is that Burnett is looking for something like the 16M he got last year and the Nats want to give him something like Haren’s 10M or Jackson’s 11M.

      Thought Haren got $13M?

Oh you’re right. I guess I had blocked out that we paid him that much money. Seems like less of a gap to bridge, if that is indeed the issue. But again, that’s just my guess.

Until we have a definite 5th starter, I will hold off on any kind of proclamation on “best”. Keep thinking back to last year when we were picked to win it all. I know we have a fine team and I am pleased with that but I just keep hoping that the Dodgers, Cards and Braves get all the press and we just sort of catch fire, jump out in front and stay there.

I will predict that Strasburg has the kind of year that people have been hoping for the past two. I think he dominates this year and it should be fun.
