Nationals owner Mark Lerner joined Comcast SportsNet’s broadcast of the Wizards and Magic game on Friday night to talk with Steve Buckhantz and Phil Chenier about the new season. He discussed everything from World Series expectations to whether the Nats will get an All-Star Game in the near future. He was also asked for the first time about whether the Nationals are indeed hoping to add a retractable roof to Nats Park.

Here is what he said about the roof proposal:

I don’t believe it’s gonna happen. We inquired, we’re always looking to do things that are unique. It was a way to have more events at Nationals Park, but it was just an idea. It was an idea we were throwing around in a room. It wasn’t that we specifically asked for it, we were just talking about it.”

And hopefully that’s the last we’ll hear of the Nats Park roof.

Long bus ride for the boys. And we don’t get to see Stras vs Fernandez on TV. And there are going to be runners. Lots of runners. Runners get in the way when I want to get to work. Actually, I don’t WANT to get to work, I just want to get paid, and therefore… oh, well.

      Is this one on 106.7?

      • NatsLady - Mar 15, 2014 at 9:34 AM

I don’t think so. I recall Charlie&Dave saying they wouldn’t be back on the air for about 10 days.

If you have or their audio service, the Marlins are broadcasting it on the radio.

        I haven’t renewed yet… Hrm…

A good deal of regulars are making the trip though.

Rendon, Espinosa, Zim, Harper, Ramos, LaRoche and McLouth.

Yes. Get a good long look at Fernandez. And hope we don’t face him too often when it counts.

I was looking through the Nats spring training stats and noticed that between them Span, Moore, and Zimmerman have 80 at bats without any walks. It doesn’t mean much of anything, just an oddity that I noticed.

Call me naive but comments like these make me appreciate the Lerners. They are smart enough to not overreach. They know they got a great deal on their stadium and the Nats don’t need a roof. They are wise enough to know that it’s OK to ask almost anything — once — and not to keep pushing a rock up hill and appear greedy. As wealthy as they may be they know well enough that it hurts the brand to look avaricious. They will make the fan base happy by providing enough money every year to compete for a championship. In time they may approach the Capitals in being able to fill every seat on a regular (if not everyday) basis.

Spot On. And you are not naive. You just recognize smart business practices.

reminds me of an old song duing many a drunken nights back in the day

The roof the roof the roof is on fire
The roof the roof the roof is on fire
The roof the roof the roof is on fire
We don’t need no water let the mofo burn

    can’t wait for March 31!!!!
